Robert C. Macauley, Founder and Chairman, AmeriCares Foundation
Mr. Macauley founded AmeriCares in 1982. Prior to AmeriCares, Mr. Macauley founded and served as President of the Virginia Fibre Corporation (now Greif Bros. Corporation). He continues to serve as director at Greif Bros. In addition, Mr. Macauley serves as an advisor to the National Executive Service Corps. and New York Medical College. Previously, he served as an advisor to World Share and Christmas in April. Mr. Macauley graduated from Yale University and served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, Air Transport Command, African Middle East Wing, from 1943-45.

Alma Jane Macauley, Co-Founder and Vice Chairman, AmeriCares Foundation
Mrs. Macauley is the co-founder and Vice Chairman of AmeriCares. In addition, for 19 years Mrs. Macauley has been Executive Director for Friends of Children, a nonprofit foundation promoting the well-being of orphaned, abandoned, sick and injured children around the world. Also a founding director of Covenant House, Florida, and Good Counsel, New York and New Jersey, Mrs. Macauley received her M.A. from the University of Miami in Guidance and Counseling and served as Dean of Girls in Miami in her early career.

C. Dean Maglaris, Lead Director, Group Vice President (Ret.), Pfizer, Inc.
Mr. Maglaris has more than 33 years of experience in marketing and general management in the pharmaceutical, medical device and health care industries at Pfizer, Inc. Since retiring as a senior executive from Pfizer, Mr. Maglaris has advised companies on matters pertaining to health care and marketing products as well as services for the delivery of health care. He graduated from the University of Vermont and received an MBA from Northeastern University.

Curt Welling

Curtis R. Welling, President & Chief Executive Officer
Curt Welling joined AmeriCares as President and CEO in 2002. Since that time, he has guided the organization in delivering $5 billion in medicines and supplies around the world, enabling more people to live longer, healthier lives.  Welling brings to AmeriCares an extensive career in the investment banking and securities industry with firms such as SG Cowen, Bear Stearns and Credit Suisse First Boston. Welling currently serves on the Boards of Coca-Cola Enterprises (NYSE: CCE), The Nelson A. Rockefeller  Center for Public Policy at Dartmouth College and Vice Chair of The Adirondack Council and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.  Previously, he served as Board Chair of Spence Chapin Services and was the founding Board Chair of the Donaldson Adoption Institute. He received both his Master’s of Business Administration and Bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College, and his law degree from Vanderbilt University Law School.

Carol B. Bauer, Former Chairman, Board of Trustees, Norwalk Hospital
Ms. Bauer joined the AmeriCares board in 2002. She has served on several boards, including The United Way, Norwalk Hospital Foundation and the American Heart Association. She was Chairman of the Board of Norwalk Hospital from 1996-2001. Ms. Bauer received a BA from Harris Teachers College in St. Louis, MO and a graduate degree in education from Southern Seminary in Louisville, Ky. She has taught physically and mentally handicapped children and has been a lecturer in French history.

John L. Kelly, Private Investor
Mr. Kelly joined the AmeriCares board in 2002. He is currently a private investor after a long career in banking. Mr. Kelly most recently worked for Societe Generale, where he was Head of Portfolio Management and a member of the Management Committee for SG Americas. Prior to SG, Mr. Kelly was with Bear Stearns, First Boston and Rockefeller Family & Associates. He received a BA in American Studies from Yale University and a Master's degree in Management from Yale School of Management.

Jerry Leamon, Global Managing Partner, Clients & Markets,  Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu
Mr. Leamon joined the AmeriCares board in 2005.  He is currently the Global Managing Partner, Clients & Markets for Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu.  In this role, he is responsible for all client- and market-facing programs, including the Global Strategic Clients, Strategic Clients, and Global Industry Programs, as well as Marketing and Business Development. Mr. Leamon graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a B.B.A. in Accounting, where he participated in a co-op student program with the Internal Revenue Service, and received CPA certification.

Joseph W. Merrill, Managing Member, Nor’East Capital, LLC
Mr. Merrill joined the AmeriCares board in 2002. He is currently the Managing Member at Nor’East Capital, LLC in New Canaan, CT. Nor’East was formed in 1992 to evaluate and manage direct investment opportunities. Prior to Nor’East, Mr. Merrill worked for General Reinsurance Corporation. He has served as a Trustee of New Canaan Country School, New Canaan Nature Center, New Canaan YMCA and The Nature Conservancy, Connecticut chapter. He graduated from Williams College and received an MBA from the University of Chicago.

Mr. Rucci is the founder and managing partner of the law firm of Rucci, Burnham, Carta, Carello & Reilly, LLP in Darien, CT. Mr. Rucci concentrates in areas of business and commercial law and is admitted to practice before the Connecticut Bar, the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut, the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit and the United States Supreme Court. He holds a Juris Doctorate from the Villanova University School of Law and a Bachelor of Social Science degree from Fairfield University in Connecticut. He joined the AmeriCares board in November 2001.

Beverly Schuch, Board Member of AmeriCares, humanitarian aid organization providing international relief in all parts of the world

Beverly Schuch, Former Anchor and Correspondent for CNN
Ms. Schuch was the former host of CNN’s award-winning program, Pinnacle, for 14 years. Her credits include an Emmy Award for outstanding interview and interviewer, the George Foster Peabody Broadcasting Award for her participation in CNN’s coverage of the 1987 stock market crash, as well as the New York Film Festival Finalist Award for Pinnacle. She graduated from Muskingum College in Ohio and attended the University of Barcelona as well as Simmons College for graduate studies. 

 

 

Chip Skowron

Chip Skowron, M.D., Ph.D., Managing Director, Morgan Stanley; Portfolio Manager, FrontPoint Healthcare
Dr. Skowron is a managing director at Morgan Stanley and portfolio manager for FrontPoint Healthcare investment strategies. The health care investment group at FrontPoint is responsible for global health care investments and is recognized as one of the pre-eminent health care investment firms. Prior to founding the FrontPoint Healthcare Funds, Dr. Skowron was a Healthcare Analyst at Millennium Partners, LLC and SAC Capital Management, LLC. Dr. Skowron received a M.D. from Yale Medical School, a Ph.D. in cellular and molecular biology from Yale Graduate School and a B.A. from Vanderbilt University with dual majors in chemistry and mathematics. He received his medical training in Boston at the Harvard Combined Orthopedic Residency and the General Surgery Residency Program at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and has published original research papers in the areas of organic chemistry, cell biology and genetics. Dr. Skowron has participated in AmeriCares disaster relief efforts since 1995, providing aid throughout the world, including India, Cuba, Kosovo, and New Orleans, Louisiana. He joined the board in 2008.

Fred Weisman, Board Member of AmeriCares, humanitarian aid organization providing international relief in all parts of the world

Fred Weisman, President (Ret.), Aviation Management Services
Mr. Weisman was formerly president of Aviation Management Services, a consulting company supporting business aviation activities for major corporations. Prior to that, he held positions with PepsiCo Airlease Corporation, Texas International Airlines, Bonanza Airlines, Trans World Airlines and Westinghouse Electric Corporation. Aside from extensive involvement with AmeriCares over the years, Mr. Weisman has been active with the Stamford Shelter for the Homeless, Boy Scouts District Council, Healing the Children and Junior Achievement. He and his wife Joan were named 2003 Outstanding Philanthropists for Connecticut by the Connecticut & Fairfield County chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. Mr. Weisman graduated from University of Missouri School of Business Management and received a B.S. in Aeronautical Engineering from Parks College of St. Louis University. He joined the AmeriCares board in 2003.   

 

 

James Wheat III, Board Member of AmeriCares, humanitarian aid organization providing international relief in all parts of the world

James C. Wheat III, Managing Partner, Colonnade Capital, LLC
Mr. Wheat joined the AmeriCares board in 1991. He is currently Managing Partner of Colonnade Capital in Richmond, Virginia. Prior to Colonnade Capital, he worked in institutional sales at Salomon Brothers and Merrill Lynch. He was appointed chairman of the Virginia Retirement System in 1994 and appointed to the Board of Visitors of the University of Virginia in 1997. Mr. Wheat graduated from Hamden-Sydney College and holds an MBA from the Darden School of the University of Virginia. 

 

 

Dr. Steven Winter, Board Member of AmeriCares, humanitarian aid organization providing international relief in all parts of the world

Stephen Winter, M.D., Chief, Pulmonary & Critical Care, Norwalk Hospital; Clinical Professor of Medicine, Yale University
Dr. Winter joined the AmeriCares board in 2003. He is currently Chief of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Norwalk Hospital and Clinical Professor of Medicine at Yale University School of Medicine, both in Connecticut.   Dr. Winter was the recipient of the 2002 Humanitarian Award of the Connecticut Thoracic Society and the 1999 Community Service Award of the American College of Chest Physician Governors. His volunteer work with AmeriCares has taken him to Iraq, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan, the Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Serbia, Albania, North Korea and Ground Zero in New York on 9/11. He has also been a member of medical missions to Rwanda, Haiti, Thailand and Cambodia. Dr. Winter received a M.D. from Cornell University Medical College, graduated from University of Michigan Medical College, received an M.S. in Systems Analysis and Synthesis from Stanford University and a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from University of Illinois. He completed a residency in internal medicine at The New York Hospital and Memorial Sloan-Kettering and a fellowship at Yale-New Haven Hospital and West Haven Veterans Administration Hospital.
