Why Donors Give to Americares
Americares donors are extraordinary people who have a genuine desire to help the world’s most vulnerable. Many say that giving to Americares makes them feel good because it’s something they can do to help people and make the world a better place. And Americares shares the stories of the impact donors make around the world and near at home – supporting frontline health workers in a Global COVID Pandemic, responding to a health crisis in Colombia or the war in Ukraine — saving lives and bringing hope to those most in need.
And there are other benefits to charitable giving like tax deductions, promoting generosity in your children and improving money management.
When asking where to contribute after Hurricane Dorian’s disastrous impact on the Bahamas, a friend said Americares receives excellent ratings on Charity Navigator.
-Dr. N. Caroll
“But there are lots of charities out there, and how can you be sure that your money is going to a reputable one?”
We are deeply committed to being fiscally responsible while executing our mission of saving lives and improving health for people affected by poverty or disaster
– Christine Squires,
Americares President and CEO
Charity Evaluators
When you give to a charity, you want to know that your hard-earned dollar is being put to the best use.
Charity watchdogs are great resources for charity research – providing impartial third-party ratings on financial efficiency, effectiveness, honesty, accountability, and transparency. Donors can quickly check a charity’s rating before making a gift.
For six years in a row, Americares has earned a 4-star rating – the highest possible – from Charity Navigator, America’s largest independent charity evaluator, for its strong financial health and commitment to accountability and transparency.
Since 2002, Charity Navigator has awarded only the most fiscally responsible organizations a 4-star rating. Only 14 percent of the charities evaluated by Charity Navigator have received at least 6 consecutive 4-star evaluations.

Who is Charity Navigator and Why Do They Matter?
Charity Navigator was founded in 2001, and is now the nation’s leading donor advocate and go-to resource for researching charitable organizations.
It’s a great way to find a trusted, effective and efficient charity. You can search charities for free, and they provide helpful lists, like the 10 Best Charities (Americares is included!), 10 Most Followed Charities, 10 charities Worth Watching and more!
You can even find tips for donors – like making informed gifts, giving in times of crisis and the tax benefits of giving.
Their team of analysts developed a rating system to assess over 9,000 of America’s charities, by examining two broad areas of performance: financial health and accountability and transparency.
Charity Navigator doesn’t knowingly solicit contributions from charities they evaluate, so their ratings are uncompromised. It’s also a 501(c)(3) public charity and depends on support from individuals, corporations and foundations to help charitable donors like you make wise decisions with their giving dollars.

They were with me every step of the way.
-Siu Lu
Siu Lu was just a teenager when she walked into an Americares clinic for routine medical care. She trusted the kind, knowledgeable staff – especially later when she was diagnosed with diabetes.
Because of the support from generous donors, the Americares staff worked hard to find the right medication for Siu Lu so that she could manage her diabetes – without cost to the young woman. And within a year, Siu Lu made lifestyle changes so that she no longer needed diabetes medication.
