Leamon Elected AmeriCares Chairman

  • June 29, 2015

Stamford, Conn. – June 29, 2015 – AmeriCares is pleased to announce former Deloitte Global Managing Director Jerry Leamon has been elected chairman of the AmeriCares Board of Directors.

Leamon has served on the AmeriCares board for a decade, most recently serving as a vice chairman. He brings 40 years of experience in the professional services sector with the Deloitte network, including 30 years as a senior leader. Leamon retired from the Deloitte network in 2012 as Global Managing Director responsible for client and market-facing programs. Leamon held a variety of other leadership roles over the years including Managing Partner of the Deloitte U.S. tax practice. He replaces C. Dean Maglaris who had led the AmeriCares board since 2011.

The AmeriCares Board of Directors oversees all aspects of the emergency response and global health organization’s humanitarian aid programs including its disaster response work and health programs in under-resourced countries. Last year alone, AmeriCares delivered enough medicine to fill 9 million prescriptions for patients in need worldwide.

“I am immensely proud of the work AmeriCares has done to help save lives and improve health all over the globe,” Leamon said. “I have seen the organization grow to become the largest nonprofit provider of donated medicine to U.S. safety net clinics, helping Americans struggling with the everyday emergencies caused by poverty. As chairman, I want AmeriCares to increase its impact and help even more people in crisis here in the U.S. and abroad.”

Leamon also serves on the University of Cincinnati Foundation’s Board of Trustees where he is a member of the Executive Committee. He is also the immediate past chairman of the Greenwich Leadership Forum. In addition, he sits on the board of Korn Ferry International, as well as several advisory boards.

Leamon holds a B.B.A. in accounting from the University of Cincinnati and is a Certified Public Accountant. He lives in Greenwich, Conn., with his wife, Rita.
