AmeriCares Sending Disaster Relief after Deadly Earthquake Strikes Haiti

  • January 12, 2010

AmeriCares is preparing to respond to a 7.0 magnitude earthquake that struck Haiti earlier today. The earthquake leveled a hospital in the Haitian capital city of Port-au-Prince. Official casualty reports are being developed, but witnesses near the disaster could hear screams of people trapped inside the hospital. AmeriCares has pledged $5 million worth of aid for the people of Haiti. Help Support AmeriCares >>

AmeriCares is working with partners on the ground to deliver humanitarian aid and disaster relief. Many local partners are reporting it is difficult to reach staff on the ground near the epicenter of the earthquake.

In December, AmeriCares sent an aid delivery to Haiti of critical medicines and medical supplies to fight serious infections, burns and skin infection and surgical supplies. AmeriCares has been providing humanitarian aid to Haiti since 1984, partnering with local health care organizations throughout the country. We’ve delivered more that $145 million worth of medical aid and humanitarian relief to Haiti. AmeriCares helps partners serve more patients and avoid running out of basic medicines and medical supplies with regular shipments throughout the year.

For over 25 years, AmeriCares has responded with emergency relief and lifesaving aid to catastrophic disasters around the world that have affected millions of families: from floods in India, the Tsunami in Southeast Asia, to earthquakes in China and Peru, and deadly cholera outbreaks in Zimbabwe.

Your gift to the Haiti Emergency Relief Fund will help with our lifesaving response to this deadly disaster.
