Forbes has named Americares the 8th largest charity in the United States for the second year in a row. The 2025 list of America’s Top 100 Charities ranks nonprofit organizations by the amount of private donations received. Americares, a global health and disaster relief organization, brought in $1.9 billion in donations—both financial gifts and product donations—during the period covered by the survey.

“This ranking confirms the confidence donors have in Americares to deliver life-saving medicine, medical supplies and health programs around the globe,” said Americares President and CEO Christine Squires. “We are extremely grateful to our supporters, whose commitment allows us to strengthen health systems, respond to emergencies and increase access to care for people and communities in crisis.”

The survey also assigns Americares a score of 99 percent for fundraising efficiency and a score of 98 percent for charitable commitment, which measures the percentage of a charity’s total expenses spent on programs.

Government funding is not factored into the ranking. Private support is defined as cash, securities, goods, real estate and services. A more detailed explanation of the survey methodology is explained HERE.

Americares supports over 4,000 health centers worldwide, including more than 900 free clinics and community health centers in the United States, with transformative health projects, medicine and medical supplies. In fiscal year 2024, the period for which Americares provided data for the Forbes survey, Americares delivered 16.7 million prescriptions and 3 million medical supplies worldwide. At the same time, Americares responded to 35 emergencies in 28 countries, including the humanitarian crises in Ukraine and Gaza.

One of the leading global nonprofit providers of donated medicine and medical supplies, Americares distributes nearly $2 billion in medicine and supplies to 80 countries on average each year. Since it was founded more than 45 years ago, Americares has provided over $24 billion in aid to 164 countries, including the United States. Americares has consistently earned a 4-star rating—the highest possible—from Charity Navigator and meets all 20 BBB Wise Giving Alliance standards for charity accountability.
