Stamford, Conn.—March 29, 2018—Americares, the health-focused relief and development organization, today announced the promotion of Lindsay O’Brien to vice president of U.S. programs and partnerships. In her new role, O’Brien will drive the strategic direction of Americares U.S. Program, the largest provider of medical aid to the U.S. health care safety net. She will be responsible for implementing innovative clinic-based programs that expand access to care for millions of low-income, uninsured patients. O’Brien will also direct research initiatives on diabetes prevention, healthy food integration and hypertension.
“Lindsay has made significant contributions to Americares success and we are excited for her to take on a leadership role as vice president of U.S. programs and partnerships,” said Americares President and CEO Michael J. Nyenhuis. “Her experience working within the U.S health care safety net will be invaluable as we continue to expand our programs to help more families in need.”
Americares saves lives and improves health for people affected by poverty or disaster worldwide so they can reach their full potential. In the U.S., Americares is the largest nonprofit provider of medical aid to organizations serving low-income and uninsured patients. Americares provides more than $200 million in medicine, supplies, education and training annually to a network of more than 1,000 partner clinics nationwide. Americares U.S. Program helps partner clinics increase capacity, provide comprehensive care, improve health outcomes and reduce costs for patients.
O’Brien, a Riverside resident, has been with Americares since 2013 when she was hired to manage the organization’s Hurricane Sandy recovery program. Most recently, she served as senior director of U.S. programs and partnerships. Prior to joining Americares, she served as a small business consultant at Community Capital New York, Inc., where she provided technical assistance to small business owners lacking access to credit. O’Brien also served as a small business and nonprofit recovery consultant for Seedco, where she was part of a team that delivered over $34 million in aid to small business owners in Manhattan affected by the September 11 terrorist attacks.

O’Brien earned a master’s degree in public administration with a focus on nonprofit management from New York University and a bachelor’s degree from Amherst College. She completed a certificate in leadership management from the Thunderbird School of Global Management and is a certified adult and youth mental health first aid instructor.
