Green Day to Support Americares Response to Hurricane Harvey

  • September 05, 2017

Stamford, Conn. – Sept. 5, 2017 – Green Day will broadcast a special performance via Facebook Live at Facebook.com/GreenDay/ TODAY, Tuesday, Sept. 5, at 4 p.m. EST, to support Americares Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. The band will donate $100,000 to the health-focused relief and development organization and encourage fans to support its response, as well. Green Day will stream a set from backstage at MIDFLORIDA Credit Union Amphitheatre in Tampa, Fla., where they are performing tonight.

“Americares is truly grateful to have Green Day’s support,” said Americares President and CEO Michael J. Nyenhuis. “Their generosity and dedication means so much to us, as we restore health and hope for those affected by Hurricane Harvey.”

An Americares emergency response team arrived in Texas just before the hurricane made landfall and immediately began working with federal and state agencies, local organizations and partner health clinics to meet urgent health needs. Americares relief workers in Houston are delivering medicine and relief supplies to emergency shelters and supporting health facilities serving low-income and uninsured patients in affected areas.

“We kept seeing these terrible images of devastation coming from Texas, and we knew we had to do something to help,” said Green Day lead vocalist Billie Joe Armstrong. “We’re encouraging fans to join us in support of Americares, a trusted organization that’s on the ground providing aid.”

Americares has professional relief workers ready to respond to disasters at a moment’s notice and stocks emergency medicine and supplies in its warehouses in the U.S., Europe and India that can be delivered quickly in times of crisis. The organization responds to an average of 30 natural disasters and humanitarian crises worldwide each year, establishes long-term recovery projects and brings disaster preparedness programs to vulnerable communities.

Donations to Americares Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund will support its response to the storm. To view Green Day’s livestream, please visit Facebook.com/GreenDay
