  • May 14, 2014

Stamford, Conn. – May 14, 2014 – AmeriCares hosted an advance screening of Disney’s “Million Dollar Arm,” on May 13 to benefit the humanitarian aid organization’s health programs in India. An Evening for AmeriCares India, held at the AMC Theater, West 84th and Broadway in New York City, raised more than $5,000 for AmeriCares India. The movie, starring Jon Hamm, Lake Bell, Madhur Mittal, Aasif Mandvi and Suraj Sharma, is based on the real life story of a sports agent searching India for baseball’s next pitching sensation.

AmeriCares Senior Vice President of Development Kevin Allan thanked the more than 150 attendees for supporting health programs that help India’s poor and those suffering in the aftermath of cyclones, flooding, and other disasters.

AmeriCares India responds to emergency medical needs, supports long-term humanitarian assistance programs in India and throughout the region, and operates five mobile medical clinics that provide free primary care and medicines to residents of Mumbai’s slums. Over the years, AmeriCares has delivered more than $50 million worth of medicines, medical supplies and aid to India.
