“Daddy’s Home” Comic Strip To Feature AmeriCares

  • July 22, 2013

Internationally Syndicated Comic Strip, “Daddy’s Home” Guides Readers to AmeriCares For Hurricane Sandy Relief

“Remember when Sandy used to be Olivia Newton John in ‘Grease?’”

That’s the caption in one of seven “Daddy’s Home” cartoons designed to raise awareness for Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. This particular cartoon shows a family standing near an illustration of a devastated home in Union Beach, NJ. Each of the seven comic strips in the week-long series starting July 22, will feature a town affected by the Hurricane. The cartoons will also offer readers websites and phone numbers for seven different non-profit organizations where fans can volunteer their time and funds to relief efforts.

“Daddy’s Home” co-creator, Tony Rubino grew up in New Jersey and now lives in New York City where he witnessed the Hurricane’s devastation.

“I wanted to do something for the communities where the Hurricane hit, because Sandy effected so many people and places I know and love. And I want people to be aware that progress is being made but there’s still work to do. I grew up going to the Jersey shore. So many of my old stomping grounds were just wiped out. And I have an uncle in Brooklyn whose home was virtual ruined by flooding,” Says Rubino.  “Syndicated comic strips are unique because they give the few of us lucky enough to be in mainstream daily circulation the ability to have a voice in major news media, every day, 365 days a year. No other commercial art form allows for that reach. So it’s the least I can do to dedicate a week of writing to try and help in some small way.”

“Daddy’s Home” by Tony Rubino and Gary Markstein, is distributed by Creators Syndicate out of Los Angeles, CA. It’s US print newspaper clients include The Jersey Journal,” The Seattle Times,” “The Chicago Sun-Times,” The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Lexington Herald Leader, The Bismarck Tribune, The Duluth News-Tribune, Arizona Central and The Amarillo Globe-News to name a few. These coupled with a large Canadian circulation puts “Daddy’s Home’s” total newspaper client list at more than 100 papers. In addition, “DH” has over 100 newspaper and other websites contracts, bringing the combined print and online total to approximately 200 web and print outlets.

The towns to be featured in the series include: Seaside Heights, Rockaway Beach, Point Pleasant, Coney Island, Manasquan and Union Beach.

“Daddy’s Home” was launched in 2008.
