Lysol and AmeriCares Partner to Help Recovery Efforts in Oklahoma

  • June 13, 2013

Stamford, Conn. – June 13, 2013 – Lysol has generously provided cleaning supplies and a financial donation to assist AmeriCares tornado relief efforts in Oklahoma. At the same time, a team from Lysol – a division of Reckitt Benckiser LLC in Parsippany, N.J. – is in Moore, Okla., distributing products to distribution centers run by AmeriCares partner organizations.

AmeriCares coordinated directly with the team from Lysol to distribute cases of cleaning and disinfecting products to the Baptist Mission Center, a free clinic in Oklahoma City, and MedCare United Charitable Pharmacy in Oklahoma City – all within days of the EF-5 tornado that destroyed homes, businesses, schools, a hospital and nearly everything else in its path on May 20. AmeriCares had a team of relief workers on the ground in Moore within 24 hours of the storm coordinating deliveries of medicine and relief supplies.

“The quicker families clean up their damaged homes after a disaster, the quicker they can return home and move on,” said Garrett Ingoglia, AmeriCares vice president of emergency response. “Thanks to great partners like Lysol, we had truckloads of relief supplies and cleaning products arriving in Moore within only days of the storm.”

To date, AmeriCares has delivered 48 shipments to help more than 20,000 people affected by the series of storms that hit the Oklahoma City suburbs between May 20 and May 31. In addition to the Lysol products, AmeriCares donated bottled water, first aid supplies and medicines – including more than 11,000 doses of vaccine to protect survivors injured salvaging personal belongings from the wreckage and clearing debris.

AmeriCares has delivered medical relief and humanitarian assistance to millions affected by natural and man-made disasters worldwide for more than 30 years, including Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Irene in the United States, and, most recently, Hurricane Sandy. Lysol, and its parent company, Reckitt Benckiser LLC, are longtime AmeriCares partners, supporting the organization’s disaster relief work for over 20 years. The company has donated Lysol products for some of the largest U.S. storms in recent memory, including the 2011 Alabama tornadoes, the Midwest tornadoes last spring, and Hurricane Sandy last October.
