AmeriCares Aid Arrives in Oklahoma

Stamford, Conn. – May 22, 2013 – Medical aid and relief supplies from AmeriCares are arriving in Oklahoma to help survivors of the powerful tornado that tore through the suburbs of Oklahoma City on Monday, killing and injuring dozens and flattening homes and businesses in its 17-mile path.

“We delivered medicine, water and urgently needed relief supplies in the first 48 hours and more aid is on the way,” said Garrett Ingoglia, AmeriCares vice president of emergency response. “Our disaster response team on the ground is working directly with community organizations and local health care providers to meet the immediate needs of injured and displaced survivors.”

The aid deliveries include:

• Tetanus vaccines to protect residents and first responders digging through the rubble;
• Insulin and medicines for Medcare United Charitable Pharmacy at Oklahoma University Hospital in Oklahoma City, which fills prescriptions for low-income and uninsured patients, ensuring access to medicines for the most vulnerable survivors;
• Wound care supplies, family emergency kits and flashlights for Crossings Community Clinic in Oklahoma City;
• Bottled water for food banks serving as aid distribution centers.

“The damage in Oklahoma is staggering, and we are prepared to provide a sustained response to help communities in any way we can,” Ingoglia said.
