AmeriCares Honors Fujifilm and Employees for Japan Earthquake Relief Donations

  • May 16, 2011

Stamford, CT—To thank Fujifilm North America Companies and their employees, officials from Stamford, CT-based AmeriCares recently visited the Fujifilm offices in Valhalla, NY to present a special appreciation award for Fujifilm’s contributions to AmeriCares Japan earthquake and tsunami relief efforts.

“AmeriCares is grateful to Fujifilm for its compassion and generosity in helping the people of Japan recover from this devastating tragedy,” said AmeriCares Vice President of Institutional Relations Diana Maguire.  “Thanks to great supporters like Fujifilm, AmeriCares has the resources to assist the long-term recovery efforts and help restore health and hope for countless survivors.”

Fujifilm North America Companies made a total donation of $227,000 to AmeriCares Japan earthquake and tsunami relief effortsFujifilm North America Companies donated $100,000 and $127,000 came from individual employee contributions.

“I could not have imagined that over the course of just three short weeks, employees of our North American companies would donate over $125,000 of their hard-earned money to help people in a country so far away,” Ray Hosoda, president, HLUS and president & CEO, FNAC said during the award presentation ceremony in April. “Each day when I received the updated employee contribution report, I kept thinking, ‘How can this be possible?’  I have spent over ten years in this country, and what I have come to learn is that the people in the U.S. will always find a way to help those people who are less fortunate.”

AmeriCares is delivering critically needed aid to hospitals and evacuation centers in Japan in the aftermath of the March 11 disaster.  Our aid includes medicines and medical supplies for hospitals and medical teams treating survivors, as well as personal hygiene products for the thousands of families left homeless. Going forward, AmeriCares plans to focus its relief work on restoration and expansion of health care services; elder care and care for the disabled; mental health and social support; protection of orphans and vulnerable children; and aid for evacuees.

AmeriCares has provided medical relief and humanitarian assistance to millions affected by natural disasters and man-made crises around the world for nearly 30 years including the 2004 tsunami in Southeast Asia, Hurricane Katrina in the United States and the 2010 earthquakes in Haiti and Chile. AmeriCares emergency response work often lasts years beyond the initial disaster as we rebuild hospitals and health clinics and restore health services.
