$1.8 million commitment to support medical assistance around the world and across the U.S.

Stamford, CT—AmeriCares has received its largest corporate donation ever with a $1.8 million commitment from OdysseyRe, a Stamford, Connecticut-based company.  OdysseyRe, a leading worldwide underwriter of property and casualty reinsurance, as well as specialty insurance, has provided significant support for AmeriCares programming initiatives, including a $1 million donation to help AmeriCares Free Clinics serve the uninsured in Fairfield County, CT.

“OdysseyRe has been a significant supporter of AmeriCares work around the world and across the United States.  We are honored to have a corporate neighbor who shares our vision of helping people live longer, healthier lives,” said Curt Welling, president and CEO of AmeriCares.  “The support from OdysseyRe will enable AmeriCares to continue to carry out the delivery of lifesaving medical assistance and help impact hundreds of thousands of people in desperate need.”

The $1.8 million grant is comprehensive and will enable AmeriCares to deliver donated medicines, medical supplies and humanitarian aid through its ongoing programs, including:

  • $700,000 to support AmeriCares responses to emergencies and natural disasters around the world, including $100,000 to purchase and preposition emergency medical supplies ready for immediate deployment in the wake of a catastrophe;
  • $600,000 for AmeriCares Domestic Medical Assistance Program, which supports health clinics across the United States serving the uninsured and underinsured;
  • $300,000 for AmeriCares India, a program that provides critical aid during emergencies and responds to ongoing medical needs in India, Asia and Africa;
  • $200,000 for AmeriCares Medical Outreach Program, which supports U.S.-based health care professionals who provide volunteer medical care and surgeries.
