AmeriCares Presents “Power Of Partnership” Award To Boehringer Ingelheim

  • October 25, 2007

STAMFORD, CT, October 25, 2007- AmeriCares has awarded its annual “Power of Partnership” award to Boehringer Ingelheim, one of the world’s leading pharmaceutical companies.  The award was presented today at the annual Healthcare Distribution Management Association (HDMA) Annual Leadership Forum in Phoenix, Arizona.
“The Power of Partnership” award was created by AmeriCares and HDMA to recognize medical manufacturing and distribution organizations that have shown exceptional dedication to expanding access to medicines and health care for disadvantaged populations in the developing world and here at home.

“We are honored at being chosen to receive AmeriCares “Power in Partnership” award,” said Amy Fry, president of the Boehringer Ingelheim Cares Foundation.  “This award reinforces the importance of the Foundation’s mission and the company’s commitment to expanding access to medicines and healthcare both in Connecticut and across the globe.”

Boehringer Ingelheim has partnered with AmeriCares for 20 years, contributing more than $100 million worth of medicines and supplies including products for chronic respiratory care, diuretics, antibiotics and pain relievers, which have reached people in more than 40 countries.   In addition to donating vital medicines for emergencies in far away places, Boehringer Ingelheim has also provided financial contributions that enable AmeriCares to further support  communities in need here at home.  In 2005, the Boehringer Ingelheim Cares Foundation funded a medical outreach program with a $750,000 grant to provide free, quality health care to the uninsured working poor in the communities that make up Greater Danbury, CT.  The Boehringer Ingelheim-AmeriCares Free Clinics Outreach Program included a mobile medical unit that continues to bring much-needed aid to people who otherwise would go without the care.  The generous donation also allowed the AmeriCares Free Clinic of Danbury to effectively double its hours of operation.

“We rely on the generosity of corporate donors to carry out our disaster relief and medical assistance programs for those in need wherever they are,” said AmeriCares President and CEO, Curt Welling. “Boehringer Ingelheim has remained dedicated and willing to fill special requests for two decades and as a result has helped us increase the quality and impact of our aid.”

As with all prior recipients of this award, Boehringer Ingelheim is a member of HDMA.

“HDMA is pleased to partner with AmeriCares to recognize our member companies for their generosity and their ongoing commitment to delivering health care products and services to patients who are most in need,” said HDMA President and CEO John M. Gray. “Boehringer Ingelheim is a tremendous supporter of both AmeriCares and HDMA, sharing in our vital mission to improve patient access to life-saving medications and quality health care.”
