Award Presented at HDA Business and Leadership Conference

Stamford, Conn. – June 16, 2026 – Americares, in partnership with the Healthcare Distribution Alliance (HDA), has presented its annual Power of Partnership Award to the global biopharmaceutical company Boehringer Ingelheim, in recognition of its outstanding commitment to increasing access to medicines for patients in need around the globe.

Americares Senior Vice President of Medicine Security Kellen Thomas presented the award yesterday at HDA’s Business and Leadership Conference in San Diego, Calif. Americares and HDA created the Power of Partnership Award more than 20 years ago to recognize HDA-member pharmaceutical manufacturers and distributors that have demonstrated exceptional dedication to expanding access to health care.

“Access to essential medicines and quality health care can change and save lives—which is why strong, mission-driven partnerships are so critical,” Thomas said. “For many years, Boehringer has been an extraordinary supporter of Americares, driven by our shared commitment to improve access to health care for people in need. Through our unwavering partnership with Boehringer, Americares is able to improve access to essential medicines and build healthier, more resilient communities both here in the United States and globally. We’re honored to recognize Boehringer’s longstanding collaboration and dedication with the Power of Partnership Award.”

Since 1987, Americares has delivered over $866 million in Boehringer products to help people in crisis in over 100 countries. Boehringer has donated enough medicine to fill 6.5 million prescriptions to treat hypertension, diabetes, respiratory illnesses and other health conditions, benefitting an estimated 1.1 million patients in need through its partnership with Americares. Last year, Boehringer’s donations included medicines to support Americares responses to Hurricane Melissa in Haiti and flooding in Tennessee.

In 2016, Boehringer launched a produce-to-give program to provide a dedicated supply of essential medicines to Americares partner health facilities in the United States. Boehringer has donated medicines for this program to treat hypertension, diabetes and respiratory illnesses. The program has since expanded to El Salvador, Liberia and Tanzania, and now benefits about 8,000 patients annually.

“We are honored to receive the Power of Partnership Award from Americares and HDA,” said Boehringer Ingelheim Director of Corporate Social Responsibility and Boehringer Ingelheim Cares Foundation Kristin Segrue. “Through Boehringer Ingelheim Cares Foundation, our long-standing collaboration with Americares reflects our commitment to improving access to health where it’s needed the most. Together, we are strengthening health systems, supporting communities in times of crisis and advancing a healthier future for all.”

Boehringer is also a longtime supporter of the Americares Free Clinics in Connecticut, near the company’s U.S. headquarters, with funding provided through the Boehringer Ingelheim Cares Foundation (Boehringer Cares). The Boehringer Ingelheim Americares Free Clinic in Danbury, Conn., provides quality health care at no cost to low-income residents without health insurance. In 2016, Boehringer Cares helped the clinic launch a health coaching program to help patients make lifestyle changes and be better equipped with the knowledge and tools to manage chronic disease. This innovative health coaching model has since expanded to Americares Free Clinics in Bridgeport, Norwalk and Stamford. Over the past decade, 1,500 Americares Free Clinics patients have benefited from the program.

“The Power of Partnership Award reflects the essential role collaboration plays in strengthening access to health care for patients and communities in need,” said HDA President and CEO Chester “Chip” Davis, Jr. “HDA is proud to join Americares in recognizing Boehringer for its longstanding commitment to expanding access to critical medicines and building resilient communities in the U.S. and around the world.”
