Americares is responding to the 7.8-magnitude earthquake that hit the southern Philippines on Monday, June 8, 2026. The powerful quake killed dozens and injured hundreds — knocking out power and damaging infrastructure, hospitals, homes and classrooms, according to the United Nations.

Our Response

We’re working quickly in the aftermath to mobilize critical aid, including hygiene kits and mental health support.

Drawing on our long history in the country, our team on the ground in the Philippines is coordinating closely with local partners to determine urgent needs and where best we can help. We also have confirmed that all Americares staff in the Philippines are safe.

“Americares is ready to support the most immediate needs to ensure survivors have access to the resources they need,” said Provash Budden, Americares deputy senior vice president of emergency programs. “This latest earthquake adds to the challenges faced by families across the Philippines, where repeated disasters have tested the resilience of communities over the past year.”

When disasters strike, our professional relief workers are ready to respond at a moment’s notice. We stock emergency medicine and supplies that can be delivered quickly in times of crisis.

Americares responds to 30 natural disasters and humanitarian crises worldwide each year. We establish long-term recovery projects and bring disaster preparedness programs to communities vulnerable to disasters.
