Honduras Dengue Fever Epidemic

On May 31, Honduras declared a national emergency in the face of an ongoing and worsening epidemic of dengue fever. The mosquito-borne disease can be debilitating and even deadly. Americares is working with two longtime partners in Honduras to combat the epidemic. With Americares support, the National University will make pain relievers and mosquito repellants available to their 80,000 students and 10,000 staff. Also, with Americares support, the Order of Malta expects to help more than 25,000 people in the next two months by supplying two health clinics in Tegucigalpa with critical medicine and supplies needed to treat dengue cases, as well as mosquito nets and repellants and educational materials for health workers who work in smaller outlying communities.
