03/31/08 AmeriCares Sends Additional Shipments to Kenya AmeriCares sent a second shipment of critical medicines and supplies to Kenya that arrived in February, and a third shipment is currently en route.
03/28/08 AmeriCares Emergency Response in Kenya The violence in Kenya continues to escalate over the disputed results from the December elections. Outbreaks of fighting continue to threaten communities, forcing hundreds of thousands to flee their homes throughout the country, including the capital city of Nairobi and the Rift Valley region.
03/28/08 Responding to Tornadoes in the US Tornadoes and violent storms ripped through parts of the mid-South in February causing at least 65 casualties and leaving hundreds homeless throughout Arkansas, Kentucky, Alabama, Mississippi and Tennessee. This was the deadliest outbreak of tornadoes in the US in more than 20 years. Without delay, AmeriCares responded to the devastated areas, sending medicines and supplies to support the immediate relief efforts.

March 22, is World Water Day; a day designated by the United Nations for implementing recommendations and promoting activities dedicated to providing sustainable access to clean water around the world.
03/21/08 The crisis in Darfur continues to worsen as it enters its fifth year, with escalating violence crossing the border into neighboring Chad. More than two and a half million people have been displaced, hundreds of thousands lack access to medicines and health care and hundreds of thousands have died. The need to deliver medicines and medical supplies to the region is greater than ever.
03/04/08 AmeriCares Welcomes Medical Director Frank Bia AmeriCares welcomes Dr. Frank Bia, an expert in infectious diseases and international health, to our staff. Dr. Bia served as Professor of both Medicine (Infectious Diseases) and Laboratory Medicine (Clinical Microbiology). He was also co-director of the Yale/Johnson & Johnson Physician Scholars in International Health Program for young physicians training at Yale and elsewhere.
02/26/08 The Gift of Sight Trachoma is highly contagious and most prevalent in overcrowded, poverty-stricken communities that lack access to clean water and sanitation. In 2004, AmeriCares joined a coalition effort led by the World Health Organization to achieve the Global Elimination of Trachoma by 2020.
02/08/08 The AmeriCares / Super Bowl XLII Connection! AmeriCares was selected as the charity of choice to receive over 30 bicycles, generators and batteries used during a pre-game energy event. The event took place over four days, from January 31 through February 3. Human energy was used to generate enough electricity to power 30 minutes of the Super Bowl’s Pre-Game Show. Throughout the event, hundreds of cyclists rode bicycles for twelve-hours a day for four-days.
02/07/08 Health Clinics Help Iraqi Refugees Iraq has been plagued by war and civil conflict for the past two decades, causing millions to be displaced from their homes and communities. Together, AmeriCares and the Jordan Health Aid Society (JHAS), a local health care organization in Jordan, have addressed the need for adequate health care for the increasing refugee population.
02/05/08 Field Report: Emergency Relief Arrives in Kenya In response to the upheaval following the disputed results from the December elections, AmeriCares has sent 3 tons of medicines and medical supplies to Kenya. AmeriCares aid worker Jonathan Hodgdon was on the scene, supervising the arrival and distribution of the shipment. His field report follows.
02/01/08 AmeriCares Continues its Response to Kenya AmeriCares has sent a second shipment of 7,000 pounds of medicines and supplies to Kenya, with a third shipment on the way to help the people affected by the ongoing crisis. In total more than 6 tons of medicines and medical supplies have been sent.
02/01/08 Tenth Airlift Scheduled for Darfur AmeriCares is continuing its commitment to the people of Darfur, Sudan and is preparing its tenth airlift of medicines and medical supplies in order to meet the health care needs of the refugee populations living in displacement camps.
01/31/08 Improving the Health of Darfur Refugees in Chad Since the Darfur conflict erupted in 2003, more than 200,000 Sudanese have fled into neighboring Chad, where the majority of them are now living in refugee camps. The increase in population has strained the small communities located in eastern Chad, and access to health care has been one of the greatest challenges.
01/08/08 Volunteers Bring Medicines to Panama Close to two billion people – or one third of the world’s population – have inadequate access to medicines. Among them are the residents of the rural Chepigana district of Panama. Recently, thanks to AmeriCares and its local partner, the Panamanian Association of the Order of Malta, a volunteer medical team responded to this need.
01/07/08 Child Inspires Relief Worker in Nicaragua Nearly half of all children in Latin America live in poverty. Six year old Alison is one of them. Alison lives with five siblings and her mother in Managua, in a slum neighborhood in Nicaragua. AmeriCares worker Hector Emmanuelli met her on one of his regular trips there, and visited the little girl whose smile touched his heart.
