PARTNER PROFILE:

Bristol Myers Squibb

Since 1986, Bristol Myers Squibb and the Bristol Myers Squibb Foundation have supported many of Americares major programs, from disaster response and ongoing medical aid deliveries to supporting volunteer doctors traveling overseas to provide charitable care.

Creative Collaboration

Bristol Myers Squibb and the Bristol Myers Squibb Foundation provide Americares with both ongoing support and targeted programmatic partnership. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Bristol Myers Squibb Foundation, Americares and two other long-time Americares partners have joined to source 1.4 million protective face masks. The masks are being provided to health care workers in U.S. hospitals and health systems that need them most during the COVID-19 outbreak.

Partnering to Cure Hepatitis C

In 2016, Bristol Myers Squibb provided a multi-year product donation to launch a first-of-its kind program to cure hepatitis C (HCV) among patients in Africa and Asia co-infected with HCV and HIV. Through the program, Bristol Myers Squibb provided enough of the HCV medicine Daklinza (daclatasvir) to treat 10,000 patients. The program was a joint effort of the Clinton Global Health Access Initiative, Inc. (CHAI), Americares and Bristol Myers Squibb with the objective of supporting patients in Ethiopia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Nigeria, Rwanda, and Vietnam, which together have as many as 30 million people who are antibody-positive for hepatitis C. Through this multimillion-dollar medication donation, Bristol Myers Squibb helped overcome one of the major barriers to treatment—the availability of effective, safe and simple medication regimens.

A Partner in Emergency Response

Emergency Response Partner Logo

Time and again, Bristol Myers Squibb and the Bristol Myers Squibb Foundation have stepped up in times of disaster. They have provided nearly three million pounds of medicines and significant financial support to Americares emergency response efforts in the wake of disasters, including U.S. disasters such as Hurricanes Harvey, Maria, Florence and Michael and international emergencies such as the Sulawesi earthquake and tsunami in Indonesia and the historic flooding in Kerala, India. Often, these partners step forward with offers of product or financial support before Americares even asks. They are with Americares, and with those we help, every step of the way.

“When a global crisis occurs, it is critically important that community partners come together to address the most urgent needs. And Bristol Myers Squibb and the Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation are proud to have a long-term partner like Americares. The expertise they bring to the table and their ability to coordinate the resources of their partners are vital to tackle big problems during a relief effort. We appreciate all the great work of Americares.”

John Damonti, president of the Bristol Myers Squibb Foundation.
