Hospira

Committed to advancing wellness in communities in need around the world, Hospira has been partnering with Americares since 2004, the year the company was launched as a spin-off of Abbott Laboratories. Hospira is a global, specialty pharmaceutical and medication delivery company, based in Illinois.

A rapid response is critical in times of disaster. The professionals at Hospira mirror Americares sense of urgency when disaster strikes. Following the catastrophic Southeast Asia tsunami in 2004, Americares was able to fulfill almost the entire request from Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Health with Hospira products, thanks to their quick response.

More recently, they have provided timely assistance for our emergency response efforts in Myanmar and China.

In addition to their pharmaceutical contributions, the Hospira Foundation has made various cash grants in support of Americares mission. Hospira is also deeply committed to the Americares Medical Outreach Program, which supports U.S.-based health professionals who travel overseas to give free care.

These doctors and nurses donate their time, skills and knowledge to treat some of the world’s poorest people – work that would not be possible without the generous donation of free medicines. In the last year alone, Hospira donations accompanied medical teams traveling to 57 countries including Afghanistan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ecuador, Mongolia and Sudan.

“Hospira is proud to partner with Americares to further our vision of advancing wellness,” said Stacey Eisen, Hospira’s vice president of global public affairs. “Americares strong, established track record in mobilizing on-the-ground aid helps ensure that our products are directed quickly and safely to those in greatest need – restoring or advancing health and wellness to people around the globe.

In four years, Hospira has provided medicines and medical supplies valued at more than $32 million.
