Our Hurricane Sandy Response

When Hurricane Sandy struck, the power went out in most of Staten Island, greatly reducing the ability for clinics to provide care to patients. Our mobile medical clinic helps survivors get the crucial health services they need.

“We are grateful to AmeriCares for helping us continue to provide care for patients on Staten Island after this terrible storm. The ability to triage patients and keep a mobile clinic available during this power outage is keeping patients out of the emergency room,” said Dr. David Kim, Executive Director of Beacon Christian Community Health Center. “No one on Staten Island has ever done this before.”

Operation Winter Warmth: AmeriCares relief workers and World Cares Center volunteers went door to door in Staten Island, N.Y., distributing sleeping bags to households without power since Hurricane Sandy.

Behind the scenes: A sneak peek at our Sandy relief teams working round-the-clock. Thank you to all who support our work—we take our commitment to heart. Enjoy and share!
