Americares Names Dischino Vice President of Emergency Programs

Stamford, Conn. – March 7, 2018 – Americares, the health-focused relief and development organization today announced the promotion of Kate Dischino to vice president of emergency programs. In her new role, Dischino will oversee Americares preparedness, response and recovery programs in the U.S. and around the world. She will be responsible for deploying emergency response teams into the field, coordinating large-scale deliveries of medicine and relief supplies, formulating response strategy and implementing recovery programs that restore health services for disaster survivors.

“Kate brings a wealth of experience to her new position as vice president of emergency programs,” said Americares President and CEO Michael J. Nyenhuis. “She has been on the frontlines of dozens of emergencies and has a deep understanding of what it takes to successfully implement recovery programs that meet survivors’ immediate and long-term needs.”

Dischino, a Norwalk resident, has been with Americares since 2012, most recently serving as emergency response director. She has responded to disasters in Nepal, the Philippines, Puerto Rico, Vanuatu, among other locations. She is currently overseeing the organization’s responses to Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria in the southern United States and Caribbean. Prior to joining Americares, Dischino served as the associate director of Save the Children’s Domestic Emergencies Unit.

A leader in the emergency response field, Dischino serves on the Global Advisory Board of the Humanitarian Innovation Initiative at Brown University. Previously, she served on the board of directors of the National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disasters where she was a member of the Executive Committee and chairman of the Disaster Health Committee. Dischino earned a master’s degree in international administration from the University of Denver and a bachelor’s degree in international studies and Spanish from Muhlenberg College.

Americares responds to an average of 30 natural disasters and humanitarian crises worldwide each year, establishes long-term recovery projects and brings disaster preparedness programs to vulnerable communities. Americares relief workers are among the first to respond to emergencies and stay as long as needed, helping to restore health services for survivors.
