Volunteers Assemble First Aid Kits on Giving Tuesday

  • November 29, 2016
  • Juan Valentin, Starr Sarrazin and Lori Brown of Voya Financial’s Windsor office assemble first aid kits in Americares distribution center on Nov. 29, 2016.

Stamford, Conn. – Nov. 29, 2016 – Volunteers from Voya Financial assembled 1,000 first aid kits at Americares headquarters today, Tuesday, Nov. 29, as part of the nonprofit organization’s #GivingTuesday campaign. More than 40 employees of Voya Financial’s New York City and Windsor, Conn., offices participated.

The kits contain critical first aid items, including bandages, burn gel and pain relievers. Americares pre-positions the kits in its Stamford warehouse for distribution to families displaced by tornadoes, earthquakes, hurricanes, flooding and other emergencies.

A longtime Annual Emergency Response Partner, Voya Financial helps Americares maintain year-round readiness for global emergencies. The health-focused relief and development organization responds to an average of 30 natural disasters and humanitarian crises worldwide each year, establishes long-term recovery projects and brings disaster preparedness programs to vulnerable communities. Voya Financial also supports Americares U.S. Program, which provides medicines, supplies, education and training to 1,000 clinics and health centers nationwide.

“Voya Financial employees helped us celebrate GivingTuesday, and the start of the giving season, by rolling up their sleeves to help families in crisis,” said Americares President and CEO Michael J. Nyenhuis. “The kits assembled today will help disaster survivors all over the world.”

#GivingTuesday was created in 2012 to kick off the charitable giving season, much like Black Friday and Cyber Monday start the holiday shopping season. The annual event is a global movement that harnesses the power of social media and the generosity of people around the world to bring about real change in their communities. #GivingTuesday is always celebrated on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.

“Through volunteerism and charitable giving, Voya Financial supports efforts that foster healthy, thriving communities where our customers and employees live and work,” said Darcy O’Connor, director of corporate responsibility and employee engagement for Voya Financial. “We’re proud to build upon our ten-year partnership with Americares to celebrate GivingTuesday and help families affected by poverty or disaster.”
