Trowbridge Named AmeriCares CFO

  • February 9, 2015

Stamford, Conn. – Feb. 9, 2015 – Richard K. Trowbridge, Jr. (Rick) has joined AmeriCares as Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President of Operations. In his new role, Trowbridge directly oversees finance, logistics and gift-in-kind distribution operations for the emergency response and global health organization. Trowbridge brings more than 23 years of experience in the nonprofit financial sector, having most recently served as the Chief Financial Officer and Vice President of Finance and Treasurer at Save the Children Federation, Inc. in Fairfield.

“Rick is a proven financial leader who has significant expertise in financial management of a large international nonprofit,” said Michael J. Nyenhuis, AmeriCares president and chief executive officer. “His experience is a perfect match for our own ambitions to grow and have a bigger impact globally. I am thrilled to have Rick join our senior leadership team.”

Trowbridge joined Save the Children in 1991, taking on increasing positions of responsibility in the Finance Department before becoming Chief Financial Officer and Vice President of Finance and Treasurer in 2011. During his tenure, the organization’s revenue grew from $80 million to $675 million, and net assets increased from $11 million to more than $197 million, while maintaining consistent 90-plus percent-to-programs ratios. Prior to joining Save the Children, Trowbridge held positions with The Travelers Insurance Company, Price Waterhouse and CBT Leasing.

“I am very pleased to join AmeriCares at this exciting point in their history,” Trowbridge said. “I look forward to using my experience to work with their strong senior team to help them grow and diversify their revenue base from many new funding sources. This will help them expand their global health programs by augmenting their already excellent gift-in-kind programs.”

Trowbridge earned a bachelor’s degree in history and economics from Tufts University, a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in accounting from the University of Michigan, and a CPA from the University of Illinois. A longtime resident of Madison, Conn., Trowbridge and his wife, Tertia, have three children: Ryan, Alex and Phoebe.
