AmeriCares Sends Emergency Aid for Hurricane Isaac

  • August 28, 2012

Family emergency kits and supplies arrive in Gulfport tomorrow

Stamford, Conn. – August 28, 2012 – AmeriCares is rushing to send family emergency kits and cleaning supplies for Mississippi families in Isaac’s path. The relief supplies are expected to arrive tomorrow – on the seventh anniversary of Hurricane Katrina – as the storm drenches the Gulf Coast in up to 20 inches of rain. AmeriCares is providing household cleaning kits, mops and family emergency kits – tote bags stocked with soap, shampoo, toothbrushes and other personal care items for families displaced by the storm. The kits will be distributed by The Salvation Army in Gulfport.

“Our relief supplies are en route and will be ready for distribution as soon as tomorrow,” said AmeriCares Director of Emergency Response Garrett Ingoglia. “We are in close communication with health care providers and partner organizations throughout the Gulf Coast and are prepared to send additional aid and relief workers if needed.”

AmeriCares has a long history responding to emergencies along the Gulf Coast, meeting the health needs of survivors after Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Hurricane Ike in 2008 and the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in 2010. AmeriCares has provided medical relief and humanitarian assistance to millions affected by natural and man-made disasters for 30 years, including earthquakes in Haiti, Chile, Pakistan and Japan, and the 2004 tsunami in Southeast Asia. So far in 2012, AmeriCares has responded to tornadoes in Kentucky and Indiana, wildfires in Colorado, storms and power outages in the Mid-Atlantic and Midwest and flooding in Minnesota.
