AmeriCares to Meet Needs of Fire Victims in San Diego

  • November 4, 2003

New Canaan, CT, November 4 2003 – With the help of corporate America, AmeriCares relief materials continue to arrive in San Diego in response to the 17 fires that have devastated the region, destroying 3,452 homes, 800,000 acres and forcing the evacuation of 100,000.

The initial shipments consist of bottled water and beverages, snacks, clothing as well as personal hygiene items. Donating companies include Connecticut-based Nestlé Waters, Johnson & Johnson, Kimberly Clark, Slumberjack and Kraft Foods.

An AmeriCares disaster response team directed the distribution of the supplies. AmeriCares is working with The Family Resource Center and The Salvation Army to distribute the supplies to evacuees and affected families.

Dana Waesche, project manager of AmeriCares, said “The urgency of the situation has passed and now products will continue to be distributed at community resource centers, staging areas for firefighters, and the few remaining evacuee sites. The Family Resource Center distributed all of our bottled water and beverages within two days…”
