    Headquarter Positions (Connecticut)

    Associate, Emergency Response

    The Associate will work primarily from AmeriCares Headquarters in Stamford, with occasional deployments to disaster areas in the United States and around the world to help facilitate the provision of assistance to local response partners.

    Grant Writer

    The Business Development Manager/Grant Writer will be part of a highly efficient and motivated team. She/he will manage the process for securing public funding including but not limited to: identifying new opportunities; securing strategic buy-in; coordinating proposal development and approval process and ensuring the timely submission of grants. She/he will support our field offices as they develop proposals for public funding opportunities. In addition, he/she will assist in writing and program design, as needed, for privately funded concept papers and proposals.

    Per Diem Nurse Practitioner(s) (APRN)
    Danbury and Bridgeport, CT Free Clinic Sites

    We are seeking per diem Nurse Practitioners to join our staff at our Danbury and Bridgeport sites. Under the administrative supervision of the Clinic Director, and working with a team of medical providers, the APRN will determine and deliver primary medical care.

    Sr. Associate, Recovery Programs
    Global Programs/Global Operations

    The Sr. Associate of Recovery Programs will serve as an integral member of the Recovery Team working within the Emergency Response and Recovery Department based at AmeriCares HQ offices in Stamford, Connecticut. The Sr. Associate will support implementation and operations of medium and long term program initiatives in the post emergency setting through HQ based support. Core responsibilities will include administrative support to in-country field teams, coordination of communication with field offices, oversight of the grant process and technical requirements within the HQ office, research on best-practices and recovery initiatives, data management used for monitoring and evaluation, and proposal development.     Sr. Associate/Program Manager, Monitoring & Evaluation
    Monitoring & Evaluation

    The Sr. Associate/Program Manager is part of an active unit that collaborates across the organization to document results for AmeriCares core programs using evidence-based and participatory techniques, while supporting the organization’s strategy to build long-term M&E capabilities. Efforts will focus on the management, interpretation and presentation of data - both quantitative and qualitative- and other duties as assigned. This role supports the Global Programs units in project assessment, design and evaluation. S/he will devote 20-30% of his/her time on M&E activities that support programs and partners in Latin America. The role also collaborates with Development and Communications to provide accurate, timely, synthesized data and program findings to ensure accountability to stakeholders.

    The Vice President provides vision, strategic direction and leadership for AmeriCares U.S. Medical Assistance, Connecticut Free Clinics and Patient Assistance programs.

    AmeriCares volunteers are a meaningful part of the organization and are integral to our success. Each year hundreds of volunteers work in various capacities at our headquarters or as part of our Free Clinics community program. AmeriCares does not accept applications from individual volunteers for any of our overseas missions. We do, however, welcome volunteers at our headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut, to help with project work, administrative duties, community programs, communications, graphic design and special events and we also welcome volunteers at our Free Clinics Program.

    ...at our Free Clinics

    AmeriCares Free Clinics provide quality health care to Connecticut residents who do not have access to either private or public health insurance benefits. The Free Clinics seek doctors, registered nurses, nurse practitioners, primary care physicians, specialists, screeners and translators to volunteer for our clinics in Norwalk, Stamford, Danbury and Bridgeport. Medical liability insurance is provided for medical volunteers and there are many opportunities to volunteer throughout the week. Administrative and special event volunteers are needed to help in our Stamford office. Volunteers can volunteer as often as their schedule allows. Please help us help our neighbors in need.

    U.S. Medical Assistance Program - Fall Intern

    AmeriCares is seeking an intern who can provide 16 to 20 hours of work per week for college course credit. The U.S. Medical Assistance Program Intern will provide support to Dr. Julie Darnell of the University of Illinois at Chicago in the replication of the National Survey of Free and Charitable Clinics, as well as ongoing support to the U.S. Program team as requested.

    Emergency Response Opportunities

    Help AmeriCares with its Hurricane Sandy Relief Efforts
    AmeriCares Emergency Response Program is responding to Hurricane Sandy by providing medicine and medical supplies, emergency supplies, and other assistance to support victims of the storm in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut

    As a result of our on-going relief efforts, we have the following opportunities:

    Nepal, Country Director

    AmeriCares focus in the initial days of the response is to support the Government of Nepal and the Ministry of Health and Population in the delivery of life-saving medical services and supplies and provide direct care to earthquake survivors.

    Sierra Leone, Program Manager (Part-Time)

    AmeriCares is seeking an in-country Program Manager to assist with the coordination and oversight of our global health activities and medical commodity distribution in Sierra Leone and represent AmeriCares on the national level with relevant stakeholders.

  • West Africa Field Assignments

    AmeriCares has been responding to the Ebola crisis in West Africa since April, and to date, has delivered over $2.5 million in personal protective equipment, medicines and supplies. In October, AmeriCares expanded the response efforts to include the staffing of an Ebola treatment unit (ETU) with our partner, the International Organization for Migration (IOM). AmeriCares is now working with national and local health officials in Liberia and Sierra Leone to design and implement programs to restore damaged health systems and to strengthen these systems so they are better equipped to both to meet day-to-day health needs and to respond to future epidemics.

    As a result of our recovery initiatives we currently have the following opportunities available in West Africa:

    AmeriCares is seeking an in-country Program Manager to assist with the coordination and oversight of our global health activities and medical commodity distribution in Sierra Leone and represent AmeriCares on the national level with relevant stakeholders.

  • Nepal Relief Efforts

    AmeriCares is responding to the earthquake in Nepal with medicine and supplies. We have an emergency response team in Nepal now focused on quickly getting medicine and supplies where they are most needed, in order to save lives and protect the health of survivors. We are building shipments of emergency medicine here, at our headquarters in Stamford, and also at our Amsterdam and Mumbai, India warehouses.

    Currently we are not sending volunteers to the field for this response. However, we will continue to assess our need for ‘on the ground support’ and this could change.
