    Consultancy: Ebola Emergency Response Manager (2)

    AmeriCares is seeking Ebola Response Managers (consultants) for the work we are doing in Liberia and Sierra Leone. Positions will be based in-country. We are looking for individuals with experience in infection control, disease outbreak response, and the delivery of humanitarian assistance. The Ebola Response Manager will lead our in-country response efforts in Liberia/Sierra Leone respectively, with a focus on assessing needs, ensuring that AmeriCares supplies are imported and distributed efficiently, and designing and implementing response interventions, including health worker training.

    Development Officer, Major Gifts
    Major Gifts

    In this role, the Development Officer is Responsible for soliciting gifts from donors who have the capacity to give in excess of $10,000 in support of AmeriCares mission and programs. He/she will manage relationships with approximately 150-175 current and prospective major and planned giving donors and will be expected to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward these very important supporters of AmeriCares.

    Senior Vice President of Innovation and Chief Information Officer

    The new Senior Vice President of Innovation and Chief Information Officer (SVP/CIO) will report to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Michael Nyenhuis, who was recruited to AmeriCares in early 2014. Mr. Nyenhuis is charged with building upon and accelerating AmeriCares impressive record of growth and expanding and enhancing AmeriCares brand and programmatic efforts around the world. The SVP/CIO will be a partner to the CEO in providing technology vision and leadership to AmeriCares. He/she will work closely with the senior executive team to advocate for technology and leverage information systems to help streamline our processes, enable robust reporting on our results, and create technological innovation to deliver new and integrated systems and tools to support operations, field projects and revenue generation. The SVP/CIO will take a leadership position in identifying new opportunities and representing the internal benefit to AmeriCares and the external value proposition externally.

    The SVP/CIO will work with the organization on technology strategy and tools to support mission and program success. Key will be the development and implementation of an IT strategy that anticipates future needs, and supports and expands a standard infrastructure across all of AmeriCares locations. Importantly, the SVP/CIO will work across all teams and programs to meet informational needs through technology. The SVP/CIO will oversee a desktop support, project management, systems administration, database systems management, and networking technology team to insure a sound, stable, and secure technology platform to allow AmeriCares to realize its distinct organizational goals. Ultimately, it is the SVP/CIO who oversees all IT projects and budgets.

  • Help AmeriCares Respond to the Ebola Crisis

    Call for Ebola Treatment Unit (ETU) Staff

    AmeriCares has been actively responding to the Ebola crisis in West Africa since early spring 2014 enabling local partners to provide health care through emergency funding as well as delivery of critically needed medicines, medical supplies and personal protective equipment (PPE). To date, AmeriCares has delivered over $1.1 million in PPE, medicines and other supplies including 90,000 pairs of gloves, 88,000 face masks, over 28,000 units of protective clothing, including scrubs and disposable coveralls and gowns, and enough intravenous rehydration solutions for more than 3,000 patients.

    In addition, our response includes a partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to staff and operate an Ebola Treatment Unit (ETU).

    IOM and AmeriCares are collaborating to operate three ETUs in Liberia. Each unit is constructed by the US Department of Defense. Staffing and operations are being funded by a grant from USAID. IOM is managing and staffing two ETUs, and providing technical support across all sites. AmeriCares is managing one ETU; leading the recruitment of expatriate medical staff; and is providing medicines and supplies to all three ETUs.

    Each ETU is staffed by 200 hundred people (roughly 75% are Liberian nationals and 25% are expatriate) and has 100 beds.

    AmeriCares volunteers are a meaningful part of the organization and are integral to our success. Each year hundreds of volunteers work in various capacities at our headquarters or as part of our Free Clinics community program. AmeriCares does not accept applications from individual volunteers for any of our overseas missions. We do, however, welcome volunteers at our headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut, to help with project work, administrative duties, community programs, communications, graphic design and special events and we also welcome volunteers at our Free Clinics Program.

    AmeriCares Free Clinics provide quality health care to Connecticut residents who do not have access to either private or public health insurance benefits. The Free Clinics seek doctors, registered nurses, nurse practitioners, primary care physicians, specialists, screeners and translators to volunteer for our clinics in Norwalk, Danbury and Bridgeport. Medical liability insurance is provided for medical volunteers and there are many opportunities to volunteer throughout the week. Administrative and special event volunteers are needed to help in our Stamford office. Volunteers can volunteer as often as their schedule allows. Please help us help our neighbors in need.
