AmeriCares volunteers are a meaningful part of the organization and are integral to our success. Each year hundreds of volunteers work in various capacities at our headquarters or as part of our Free Clinics community program. AmeriCares does not accept applications from individual volunteers for any of our overseas missions. We do, however, welcome volunteers at our headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut, to help with project work, administrative duties, community programs, communications, graphic design and special events and we also welcome volunteers at our Free Clinics Program.

...at our Free Clinics
AmeriCares Free Clinics provide quality health care to Connecticut residents who do not have access to either private or public health insurance benefits. The Free Clinics seek doctors, registered nurses, nurse practitioners, primary care physicians, specialists, screeners and translators to volunteer for our clinics in Norwalk, Stamford, Danbury and Bridgeport. Medical liability insurance is provided for medical volunteers and there are many opportunities to volunteer throughout the week. Administrative and special event volunteers are needed to help in our Stamford office. Volunteers can volunteer as often as their schedule allows. Please help us help our neighbors in need.

AmeriCares Summer Intern Program is a defined and intentional program, offering a well-rounded agenda with formal program objectives and expectations. The program offers an opportunity for students who are interested in global health and international development the chance to gain firsthand experience in a world-class organization.
2016 Summer Internship Opportunities
AmeriCares is offering 14 internship opportunities this year in the following areas:
Network and develop your skills in the AmeriCares Summer Internship Program!
Our Program Details:
- Summer interns will be eligible for a modest stipend payment.
- Our program runs from June 6 – August 18 (approximately 11 weeks).
- Internships are offered in our Stamford, Connecticut headquarters.
- All internships begin and end on the same dates; interns are required to work a minimum 4-day schedule, Monday - Thursday.
- The program offers each intern individual assignments, an overall learning series and a group project among other offerings.
- We require students to apply on-line and include the following: resume, cover letter and writing samples.
- Applications: We will begin filling positions in mid-March (don’t wait to apply). Positions will be filled on a rolling basis. Final application deadline is April 15th.

An important part of AmeriCares summer internship program is the group project, a cross-departmental activity requiring interns to work together under their own initiative to create an ‘end of term’ deliverable.

Emergency Response Opportunities
Help AmeriCares with its Hurricane Sandy Relief Efforts
AmeriCares Emergency Response Program is responding to Hurricane Sandy by providing medicine and medical supplies, emergency supplies, and other assistance to support victims of the storm in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut

West Africa Field Assignments
AmeriCares has been responding to the Ebola crisis in West Africa since April, and to date, has delivered over $2.5 million in personal protective equipment, medicines and supplies. In October, AmeriCares expanded the response efforts to include the staffing of an Ebola treatment unit (ETU) with our partner, the International Organization for Migration (IOM). AmeriCares is now working with national and local health officials in Liberia and Sierra Leone to design and implement programs to restore damaged health systems and to strengthen these systems so they are better equipped to both to meet day-to-day health needs and to respond to future epidemics.
As a result of our recovery initiatives we currently have the following opportunities available in West Africa:
Nepal Relief Efforts
AmeriCares is responding to the earthquake in Nepal with medicine and supplies. We have an emergency response team in Nepal now focused on quickly getting medicine and supplies where they are most needed, in order to save lives and protect the health of survivors. We are building shipments of emergency medicine here, at our headquarters in Stamford, and also at our Amsterdam and Mumbai, India warehouses.
Currently we are not sending volunteers to the field for this response. However, we will continue to assess our need for ‘on the ground support’ and this could change.
