    Operations Supply Chain Process Management

    This position oversees the management and analysis of significant data related to donor company preferences and restrictions; product characteristics and inventory; distribution partners capabilities and priorities; shipments in process or planned. The manager must be a strong team leader who can guide their staff in the efficient analysis and presentation of data in order to maximize product receipts while ensuring appropriate distribution to international and US partners.

    Project Manager, Safe Surgery Initiative (Medical Outreach)
    Medical Outreach

    A Safe Surgery Initiative (SSI) will improve access to safe surgery in low-resource settings, specifically it will increase the number of operating room staff that have access to and are trained in the use of pulse oximeters for patient monitoring as a critical component of the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist. The program manager has primary responsibility for developing and implementing a SSI pilot program using our network of volunteer surgical teams, inventory of medical products, the Exchange website, and logistics and reporting capabilities to assess oximeter needs, deliver devices and training, collect related data and report on impact. The SSI will establish a sustainable model for an ongoing and expanded SSI to improve surgical safety, and for subsequent, additional health care quality initiatives.

    As a Senior Associate, you will be responsible for providing administrative support to the fundraising and development efforts of this team of five who work with our institutional donors and prospects. Your primary role will be to provide important day to day operational and administrative support and assist with initiatives that support the effective functioning and performance of the department.     Warehouse Associate
    Warehouse

    Warehouse Associate will be responsible for end-to-end functional operations in the Stamford Distribution Center, a Pharmaceutical Warehouse distributing all scheduled drugs up to Class II narcotics. They will process inbound deliveries of donated and purchased palletized and case goods (medicine & medical consumables), organize & maintain the warehouse environment & equipment, complete outbound orders by picking and packing (using a hand-held scanner), as well as loading/unloading inbound and outbound trucks.

AmeriCares does not accept applications from individual volunteers for any of our overseas missions. We do, however, welcome volunteers at our headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut, to help with project work, administrative duties, community programs, communications, graphic design and special events and we also welcome volunteers at our Free Clinics Program.

    ...at our Free Clinics

    AmeriCares Free Clinics provide quality health care to Connecticut residents who do not have access to either private or public health insurance benefits. The Free Clinics seek doctors, registered nurses, nurse practitioners, primary care physicians, specialists, screeners and translators to volunteer for our clinics in Norwalk, Danbury and Bridgeport. Medical liability insurance is provided for medical volunteers and there are many opportunities to volunteer throughout the week. Administrative and special event volunteers are needed to help in our Stamford office. Volunteers can volunteer as often as their schedule allows. Please help us help our neighbors in need.

    AmeriCares is offering 14 internship opportunities this year in the areas listed below.

    There are six (6) internships available in these departments in the following areas:

      Communications & Marketing (3)

    There are three (3) internships available in the Communications Department this summer in the following areas:

    • Media Relations
    • Web Team
    • Multi-Media

    While the responsibilities for each intern will be dependent on the position they’re assigned, approximately 40 percent of the intern’s time will be spent on longer-term projects, while the other 60 percent will focus on short-term assignments. The intern will also participate in a group project, working alongside their fellow interns on an assignment aligned with the AmeriCares mission.

    Our Program Details:

    • Summer interns will be eligible for a modest stipend payment.
    • Our program runs from June 1 – August 13 (approximately 11 weeks).
    • Internships are offered in our Stamford, Connecticut headquarters.
    • All internships begin and end on the same dates. Interns will be required to work a minimum 4‐day schedule, which includes being here on Monday - Thursday for organizational wide meetings. Fridays will be optional.
    • The program offers each intern individual assignments, an overall learning series, a group project and more.

    AmeriCares Emergency Response Program is responding to Hurricane Sandy by providing medicine and medical supplies, emergency supplies, and other assistance to support victims of the storm in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut

    ETU Psychosocial Mental Health Coordinator

    This position will provide psychological assessment, counseling and support to ETU patients and their family members as well as fellow staff in the ETU. As the sole mental health professional on the ETU staff, the psychiatric/mental health professional will oversee and complete all levels of mental health care on the unit.

    ETU Infection Control Practitioner
    Ebola Treatment Unit (ETU) Staff

    Under the overall guidance of the ETU Team Lead and in collaboration with the Medical Coordinator, the Infection Control Practitioner will be responsible and accountable for the establishment, supervision, effective coordination and implementation of quality control and quality assurance (QC/QA) mechanisms of all the infection prevention and control activities at the ETU in Liberia. Responsibilities include implementation and enforcement of protocols related to prevent the nosocomial spread of EVD to staff and public, environmental contamination, and to ensure the safety of staff and public throughout all ETU activity, such as admission, triage, in-patient care, disposal of waste, burials, interaction with surrounding communities.

  • West Africa Field Assignments

    AmeriCares has been responding to the Ebola crisis in West Africa since April, and to date, has delivered over $2.5 million in personal protective equipment, medicines and supplies. In October, AmeriCares expanded the response efforts to include the staffing of an Ebola treatment unit (ETU) with our partner, the International Organization for Migration (IOM). AmeriCares is now working with national and local health officials in Liberia and Sierra Leone to design and implement programs to restore damaged health systems and to strengthen these systems so they are better equipped to both to meet day-to-day health needs and to respond to future epidemics.
