    Associate Director, Gift-in-Kind Process Management

    This position oversees the management and analysis of significant data related to donor company preferences and restrictions; product characteristics and inventory; distribution partners capabilities and priorities; shipments in process or planned. The manager must be a strong team leader who can guide their staff in the efficient analysis and presentation of data in order to maximize product receipts while ensuring appropriate distribution to international and US partners.

    Associate, U.S. Medical Assistance Program (Mental Health & Chronic Disease Care)
    U.S. Medical Assistance Program

    The Associate will be responsible for onboarding new partners and managing existing partners in the new Mental Health Initiative and will also support the initiative’s outreach and expansion efforts. In addition, the Associate will support and contribute to the activities of the larger U.S. Medical Assistance Program, including the Chronic Disease Care Program.     Diabetes Educator (AmeriCares Free Clinics)

    The Diabetes Educator is responsible for the creation of an innovative diabetes program. The salary is competitive and the work will take place at one of AmeriCares four free clinics in Fairfield County. This position is funded by a 12 month grant and will require approximately 4-6 hours per week.

    Senior Associate, Global Partnerships (Latin American & Caribbean)
    Global Partnerships

    The Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) Partnerships team is one of three regional teams within AmeriCares Global Partnerships department. Each team serves the regions in which they work by coordinating with local partners to deliver in-kind medical aid, design and implement emergency management and public health programs and provide disaster relief. In LAC the core of our work involves partnering with 12 local and international non-governmental organizations in nine countries to distribute medicines and medical supplies to national hospitals, non-profit clinics, social service organizations and rural health outposts.

    AmeriCares volunteers are a meaningful part of the organization and are integral to our success. Each year hundreds of volunteers work in various capacities at our headquarters or as part of our Free Clinics community program. AmeriCares does not accept applications from individual volunteers for any of our overseas missions. We do, however, welcome volunteers at our headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut, to help with project work, administrative duties, community programs, communications, graphic design and special events and we also welcome volunteers at our Free Clinics Program.

    ...at our Free Clinics

    AmeriCares Free Clinics provide quality health care to Connecticut residents who do not have access to either private or public health insurance benefits. The Free Clinics seek doctors, registered nurses, nurse practitioners, primary care physicians, specialists, screeners and translators to volunteer for our clinics in Norwalk, Danbury and Bridgeport. Medical liability insurance is provided for medical volunteers and there are many opportunities to volunteer throughout the week. Administrative and special event volunteers are needed to help in our Stamford office. Volunteers can volunteer as often as their schedule allows. Please help us help our neighbors in need.

    AmeriCares is offering 14 internship opportunities this year in the areas listed below.

      Global Programs (6)

    There are six (6) internships available in these departments in the following areas:

    • Global Partnerships, Asia/Eurasia/ Middle East/ Africa
    • Medical Outreach Program

      Communications & Marketing (3)

    There are three (3) internships available in the Communications Department this summer in the following areas:

    • Media Relations
    • Web Team
    • Multi-Media

    While the responsibilities for each intern will be dependent on the position they’re assigned, approximately 40 percent of the intern’s time will be spent on longer-term projects, while the other 60 percent will focus on short-term assignments. The intern will also participate in a group project, working alongside their fellow interns on an assignment aligned with the AmeriCares mission.


      Development (2)

    There are two (2) internships available in these departments in the following areas:

    • Corporate Relations
    • Institutional Relations/Leadership Gifts

    While the responsibilities for each intern will be dependent on the position they’re assigned, approximately 40 percent of the intern’s time will be spent on longer-term projects, while the other 60 percent will focus on short-term assignments. The intern will also participate in a group project, working alongside their fellow interns on an assignment aligned with the AmeriCares mission.


      Monitoring and Evaluation (1)

    • Gain knowledge of best practices and leading-edge tools in the M&E field
    • Data entry, cleaning and coding, and analysis experience
    • Participation in M&E trainings held in Stamford over the summer
    • Experience implementing new processes and tools in active programs; chance to see the outcomes of your recommendations impact the organization’s work directly
    • Administrative experience in a professional environment
    • First-hand understanding of how an emergency response and global health organization functions
    • Team building skills and the value of the team approach in problem solving and project development

      Emergency Response (1)

    The intern will gain an understanding of how NGOs provide humanitarian assistance after disasters. Will also gain an understanding of preparedness, response, and recovery principles. Will gain experience in use of on-line collaboration tools, web content development, and management of external constituents.

    • Administrative experience in a professional environment
    • First-hand understanding of how an emergency response and global health organization functions
    • Team building skills and the value of the team approach in problem solving and project development

      Executive Office (1)

    The Executive Office Intern will gain valuable experience in nonprofit management, including exposure to nonprofit governance, strategic and operational issues. Additionally, the Executive Office Intern will strengthen analytical, communication (oral and written) and management skills.

    • Administrative experience in a professional environment
    • First-hand understanding of how an emergency response and global health organization functions
    • Team building skills and the value of the team approach in problem solving and project development

    Our Program Details:

    • Summer interns will be eligible for a modest stipend payment.
    • Our program runs from June 1 – August 13 (approximately 11 weeks).
    • Internships are offered in our Stamford, Connecticut headquarters.
    • All internships begin and end on the same dates. Interns will be required to work a minimum 4‐day schedule, which includes being here on Monday - Thursday for organizational wide meetings. Fridays will be optional.
    • The program offers each intern individual assignments, an overall learning series, a group project and more.

    Help AmeriCares with its Hurricane Sandy Relief Efforts
    AmeriCares Emergency Response Program is responding to Hurricane Sandy by providing medicine and medical supplies, emergency supplies, and other assistance to support victims of the storm in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut

    ETU Psychosocial Mental Health Coordinator

    This position will provide psychological assessment, counseling and support to ETU patients and their family members as well as fellow staff in the ETU. As the sole mental health professional on the ETU staff, the psychiatric/mental health professional will oversee and complete all levels of mental health care on the unit.

    ETU Infection Control Practitioner
    Ebola Treatment Unit (ETU) Staff

    Under the overall guidance of the ETU Team Lead and in collaboration with the Medical Coordinator, the Infection Control Practitioner will be responsible and accountable for the establishment, supervision, effective coordination and implementation of quality control and quality assurance (QC/QA) mechanisms of all the infection prevention and control activities at the ETU in Liberia. Responsibilities include implementation and enforcement of protocols related to prevent the nosocomial spread of EVD to staff and public, environmental contamination, and to ensure the safety of staff and public throughout all ETU activity, such as admission, triage, in-patient care, disposal of waste, burials, interaction with surrounding communities.

  • West Africa Field Assignments

    AmeriCares has been responding to the Ebola crisis in West Africa since April, and to date, has delivered over $2.5 million in personal protective equipment, medicines and supplies. In October, AmeriCares expanded the response efforts to include the staffing of an Ebola treatment unit (ETU) with our partner, the International Organization for Migration (IOM). AmeriCares is now working with national and local health officials in Liberia and Sierra Leone to design and implement programs to restore damaged health systems and to strengthen these systems so they are better equipped to both to meet day-to-day health needs and to respond to future epidemics.

    As a result of our recovery initiatives we currently have the following opportunities available in West Africa:
