Before AmeriCares began working in Kosovo in 1999, high-risk newborns like Bardi had little hope of survival.
Little Bardi’s life began in Kosovo with heartbreak and hope. This tiny, three-pound boy was a miracle baby—the only survivor of a premature delivery of triplets. At birth, Bardi’s own survival was threatened by the risk of respiratory distress—a syndrome all too common among babies with underdeveloped lungs due to premature birth.

In addition, AmeriCares sends ongoing shipments of medicines and supplies to help the hospital provide free care to more than 90,000 impoverished patients each year, and supports major initiatives to treat breast cancer and HIV.

In rural Vietnam, where one-third of children under age 5 suffer from stunted growth due to malnutrition, our pediatric nutrition program is a shining example of hope and progress. Launched in 2005 with the support of our partners, Abbott, and the Abbott Fund, the program has improved the lives of more than 3,000 children. Thanks to its remarkable success in reducing malnutrition rates and promoting growth in children facing dire nutritional challenges, the program continues to expand and break the cycle of hunger.
