The Rewards of Planned Giving

There are many ways to make a gift of hope to AmeriCares. In addition to the satisfaction that comes from directly contributing to the well being of the world's neediest, making a planned gift also provides for your own financial well-being.

To recognize those individuals who have made a charitable provision for AmeriCares in their estate plans, we have established the Macauley Society. Named after AmeriCares founder, Robert Macauley, this recognition society honors our donors who use farsighted planning to make gifts that assure meaningful financial support for AmeriCares that will last beyond the donor's lifetime. If you believe that you qualify for membership in the Macauley Society we'd love to hear from you. Please contact Barbara de Courrèges at bdecourreges@americares.org or 1-800-486-HELP (4357).

To learn about ways that you can become a member of the Macauley Society and assist AmeriCares to confront the challenges of the future, please see the planned giving opportunities listed below.

Bequests
Remembering AmeriCares in your will or trust can be easily accomplished with the designation of a specific dollar amount or other property. You may also designate AmeriCares to receive a specified percentage of your estate assets.

Here is suggested language for remembering AmeriCares in your will or trust:

"I give and bequeath to AmeriCares Foundation, Inc. of 88 Hamilton
Avenue, a non profit corporation existing under the laws of the State
of Connecticut (tax identification  number: 06-1008595), the sum of
$________ (or specific asset or _____ percent of the remainder of
my estate) to be used for its general charitable purposes."

To find out more or notify AmeriCares about your bequest, contact Barbara de Courrèges at bdecourreges@americares.org or 1-800-486-HELP (4357).

AmeriCares Charitable Gift Annuity
An AmeriCares Charitable Gift Annuity is an ideal way to accomplish your personal financial goals and support the mission of AmeriCares.

What are the benefits?

  • Lifetime income at attractive, fixed rates
  • Eligibility for a charitable income tax deduction for a portion of the gift
  • Reduction and deferral of capital gains taxes if appreciated securities are used
  • Part of your annuity payments may be tax-free for a number of years
  • Membership in the Macauley Society
  • Supporting AmeriCares important work

How does it work?
You make a one-time donation of at least $10,000 in cash or appreciated securities to AmeriCares. In return for this donation, AmeriCares pays one or two individuals of your choosing an annuity each year for life. You can choose to take quarterly or semi-annual payments, which can be immediate or deferred until a later age.

You are eligible for an immediate income tax deduction for the part of your contribution that is considered a charitable gift. The annuity payments received may be partially tax-free during the annuitant's life expectancy. Moreover, you can reduce and defer capital gains taxes with donations of appreciated securities.

At the end of the lifetime of the annuitant(s), AmeriCares benefits by retaining funds remaining from your initial donation. This touches many lives and allows AmeriCares to restore hope to those in need throughout the world.

What is my annual annuity rate?

Retirement Plan Assets for AmeriCares
Support AmeriCares important lifesaving work by naming us as the partial or sole beneficiary of your IRA, 401(K), 403(B) or other retirement assets.

Why use retirement assets to make a gift?
Since retirement plan assets may be subject to both income and estate taxes if left to heirs, estate planners often recommend that you designate all or a portion of the assets to a charitable organization like AmeriCares. By leaving such assets to AmeriCares, you can pass other assets to your heirs, which may lower the tax burden.

How do I name AmeriCares as a beneficiary?
Request a "change of beneficiary" form from your retirement plan administrator. On this form you can name AmeriCares as sole or partial beneficiary, or you can name us as a contingent beneficiary in case your immediate beneficiary predeceases you. On the form list us as:

        AmeriCares Foundation, Inc.
        88 Hamilton Avenue
        Stamford, CT 06902
        Tax ID # 06-1008595
