The Associate, Communications will support the work and initiatives of the Communications Department. This position will focus primarily on providing important administrative support to the team but will also entail some research and writing along with other duties, as assigned.
Country Director, AmeriCares Haiti
In this position, the Country Director, AmeriCares Haiti will lead and manage AmeriCares program activities on the ground in Haiti, including medical assistance distribution, health system strengthening projects, and other post-emergency programs. The Country Director will conduct on-going partner assessment; identify immediate, mid- and long-term needs; carry forward and develop appropriate programming in line with AmeriCares mission, program objectives and resources; hire and supervise staff of up to twenty; and coordinate with other NGO partners and recovery efforts to best leverage and oversee AmeriCares efforts/expenditures in Haiti.
IT Project Manager
With direction from the IT Director, the Project Manager is responsible for the overall planning, management and completion of IT projects. These projects span a wide variety of departments and program initiatives and cascade down as part of AmeriCares overall organizational strategy. H/she will work with internal client groups and external consultants to develop project scope of work documents and project plans. Identify and recommend the technical approach to be used on a given project and manage the system development process.
Temporary Accounting Associate
Under the direction of the Assistant Controller, this temporary accounting associate will perform various accounting and analysis tasks which allow the Finance department to manage the accounts payable process and monthly record keeping of the Foundation.

Our intern’s role will be to dive into one of the data tools and processes and help the team to figure out how to manage sub-sections of information more thoroughly and efficiently.
Intern, Post Emergency ProgramsGlobal Programs
The core responsibility for the position would be to structure a data capturing tool, likely in excel, in collaboration with designated team members and populate the spreadsheet with the required information. This will entail extensive time reviewing final reports regarding our activities and accurately pulling the relevant information. Focus on this will initially be our Haiti and Japan projects. Time permitting, we would ideally like to include past work in Pakistan.
Intern, Medical Outreach ProgramGlobal Programs
The primary assignment of the MOP intern is to undertake research on our existing MOP teams to learn more about their needs, sponsoring and membership organizations, and destination partners. An online survey will allow us to gather data, especially qualitative information that we may not currently track, on existing and lapsed partners to inform strategic program growth. Related projects include organizing field reports and photographs, and learning more about peer organizations, how they support medical missions and the audiences they target.

The Latin American Partnerships internship provides an exciting opportunity for undergraduates interested in humanitarian aid operations in the region. Our four person team manages the largest regional portfolio within Global Partnerships; the significant workload this entails consistently offers a substantive work experience for our interns. The position is structured such that the intern is engaged in our team’s daily workflow by both taking on assignments of immediate importance and by also focusing on lengthier assignments that contribute to improving the overall efficiency and effectiveness of our work.

Assistance with preparation for donor meetings, conferences and our annual audit will form a core of the responsibilities, along with projects focused on helping to broaden specific donor relationships.

The “Multimedia” initiatives at AmeriCares are performed by a small, yet effective 2-person team within the Communications Department. They are responsible for the creation, collection, editing, cataloging, archiving, and distribution of photographs and video – AmeriCares digital assets. Most projects are completed inhouse. As an intern with this team, you will provide ongoing support for all the above activities – as well as taking the lead in managing any multimedia projects created by the remainder of the Intern Class.

The Communications Intern will support the department in all aspects of its strategic function. The intern will get a first-hand look at how a large international aid organization promotes and maintains its public identity. The core of the position will involve maintaining department-wide organization and records, as well as assisting with messaging through writing and design assignments. Tasks will be long-term and also on an ad-hoc basis as needed.

Volunteer Opportunities
AmeriCares volunteers are a meaningful part of the organization and are integral to our success. Each year hundreds of volunteers work in various capacities at our headquarters or as part of our Free Clinics community program. AmeriCares does not accept applications from individual volunteers for any of our overseas missions. We do, however, welcome volunteers at our headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut, to help with project work, administrative duties, community programs, communications, graphic design and special events and we also welcome volunteers at our Free Clinics Program.
