As part of a global effort to reduce malnutrition, decrease childhood micronutrient deficiency, and increase child survival rates, Americares and, ORIGIN|Unite are partnering to provide donations of 6*59™ Micronutrients to health care organizations helping children in need.

The 6*59™ Micronutrients are developed and formulated in accordance with the World Health Organization, United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and World Food Programme (WFP). In collaboration with Americares Medical Director, Dr. Frank Bia, and his team, ORIGIN|Unite has fortified the formula and made it available to regions where children are at high risk for micronutrient deficiency.

“Essential micronutrient supplementation is critical for children suffering from malnutrition,” explained Dr. Bia.

Hunger and malnutrition are still the number one risks to health worldwide – greater than AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis combined. Malnourished children have a reduced ability to resist infection, making them less likely to survive common diseases such as malaria, measles, pneumonia and diarrhea. Globally, nearly one person in seven faces chronic hunger, and one in three children is underweight. Poor nutrition plays a role in at least half of the 10.9 million child deaths each year.

Americares has played an active role in the fight against malnutrition with emergency deliveries and ongoing support to help children and adults in the developing world. Partnering with ORIGIN|Unite will help improve the health and lives of countless children at risk worldwide.
