MetLife Foundation

MetLife Foundation began supporting the Americares mission in 1995. Since then, the partnership has grown to include support for our Global Medical Assistance Program, Americares operations in India and our emergency response capability around the world.

MetLife Foundation was an early supporter of Americares India and has continued to play a critical role in expanding its capacity. From its base in Mumbai, Americares India provides medical assistance throughout the country. It conducts mobile medical clinics providing primary care and diagnostic screenings in remote, rural communities as well as urban slums. Americares India also deploys medical teams to provide emergency services in the aftermath of a disaster and conducts disaster preparedness training to prepare first responders for the recurring natural disasters in the region. The scope of its work now extends to Asia and Africa and the office provides a regional base of operations for more expedient and cost-effective activities.

After the 2010 earthquake in Chile, support from MetLife Foundation provided essential medical equipment in six damaged hospitals. The replacement equipment increased the capacity of still functioning hospitals struggling to cope with the influx of patients. In addition, funding from MetLife in Chile enabled Americares to stock its transitional field hospital in Angol. A fully-stocked pharmacy in the Angol field hospital provided medical teams with the resources needed for urgent medical care after the devastating earthquake.

Following the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, MetLife Foundation provided funding for Americares immediate relief and longer-term rebuilding efforts. The early support helped Americares deliver urgently needed medical assistance to over 60 health care partners during the initial response. This aid helped medical teams care for injured survivors, control infections and treat waterborne diseases

With generous support from MetLife Foundation, we have increased and strengthened our health care partnerships around the world. We are deeply grateful for its continued commitment to our shared mission of helping many more people lead longer, healthier lives.

MetLife Foundation was established in 1976 to continue MetLife’s longstanding tradition of corporate contributions and community involvement. The Foundation’s commitment to building a secure future for individuals and communities worldwide is reflected in its dedication to empowering older adults, preparing young people and building livable communities.
