Deadly Tornado Outbreak in Alabama
At least 23 people were killed and dozens more were injured as multiple tornadoes hit Lee County, Alabama on March 3. The death toll is expected to rise with the continuation of search and rescue efforts. An EF-4 tornado destroyed homes and downed power lines leaving a nearly mile-wide swath of damage through the community of Beauregard. It is the most deadly tornado strike in the U.S. since the EF-5 that devastated Moore, OK nearly six years ago. The latest series of violent storms spread destruction and debris across southern Alabama and Georgia, the Florida Panhandle and into parts of South Carolina. More than 15,000 homes and businesses were without power. Americares is in contact with partners and providing relief aid.
