Partner in Profile:
AstraZeneca

Well-known for developing medicines designed to combat some of the world’s most devastating and debilitating diseases, such as cancer, heart disease and asthma, AstraZeneca donates these and other products that are increasingly critical in supporting AmeriCares humanitarian activities.

With sixty percent of deaths in developing countries come from such illnesses (as reported by the World Health Organization), AstraZeneca is working with AmeriCares  to develop and support sustainable programs around the world that meet this growing need.  In 2008, AstraZeneca joined with AmeriCares and Sihanouk Hospital Center of HOPE to launch the Breast Cancer Initiative to provide breast cancer screening and treatment for poor patients in Cambodia who lack other options.

Based on the progress of the Initiative in education, early detection and treatment of breast cancer, AstraZeneca is extending and expanding the joint program in Cambodia through 2014.

AstraZeneca began collaborating with AmeriCares in summer 2005, with some of its first donations supporting the Hurricane Katrina relief effort.  In the same year, AstraZeneca implemented a partnership with AmeriCares Medical Outreach Program, supplying individual medical professionals and medical teams with medicines and supplies in support of their volunteer work in countries in need of medical services.   In 2009, the company provided product support for AmeriCares in its U.S. safety net clinic program.  Over the span of our 5 year partnership AstraZeneca has donated medicines and supplies to 64 countries around the world, supporting emergency response efforts and helping to improve the lives of people with little or no access to basic health care.
