After the Earthquake: Bringing Health and Life to Chile

In the wake of powerful mid-Atlantic storms that left tens of thousands of families suffering amid power outages and sweltering heat, AmeriCares trucks were rolling to help communities in hard-hit West Virginia. A total of $277,000 in water, first aid, relief supplies and emergency medical aid was delivered to help families in need. West Virginia Storm Response

In Malawi, one of the world's poorest countries, people suffer daily because of limited access to health care – especially families living in remote villages. Mortality rates for children and adults are staggeringly high – and HIV/AIDS is the leading cause of death. Working with our local partner, we’ve helped safeguard 98 percent of newborns from mother to child transmission of HIV, sparing these innocent children from a life of pain and suffering. At the same time, we send regular shipments of medical aid to support health services, along with nutritional support, to help more people in this impoverished country live longer, healthier lives.

In rural Vietnam, where one-third of children under age 5 suffer from stunted growth due to malnutrition, our pediatric nutrition program is a shining example of hope and progress. Launched in 2005 with the support of our partners, Abbott, and the Abbott Fund, the program has improved the lives of more than 3,000 children. Thanks to its remarkable success in reducing malnutrition rates and promoting growth in children facing dire nutritional challenges, the program continues to expand and break the cycle of hunger.
