Since AmeriCares first airlift to Darfur, Sudan four years ago, more than 152 tons of medicines and medical supplies valued at over $2 million have provided access to critical health care to those displaced by the ongoing violence.
AmeriCares continues its commitment to restoring health to the refugee population and is planning its 10th emergency airlift into West Darfur in early 2008.
As the conflict rages, Sudanese people seek safety in neighboring Chad, where refugee camps quickly become overcrowded, increasing the need for international aid and assistance. AmeriCares responds by sending additional emergency airlifts to help the refugee populations in both countries.
AmeriCares is the only relief organization sending medicines directly into West Darfur. In many of the camp health care clinics, virtually all the prescriptions have been filled with medicines provided by AmeriCares. The critical medications and essential medical supplies AmeriCares delivers helps hundreds of thousands of men, women and children throughout North, South and West Darfur.
AmeriCares first emergency airlift into Darfur in 2004 included more than 72,000 pounds of critical medicines and essential supplies, enabling humanitarian aid workers to provide health care to those most affected. AmeriCares is planning its tenth airlift to assist the refugee population in West Darfur, Sudan.
