"These students remain enthusiastic about their education even in the face of terror and poverty,” Dr. Purvish M. Parikh, Managing Director, AmeriCares India said. “It was a delight to see the children smile while we were distributing the protein supplements.”
The supplements will help combat anemia and malnutrition in 5,000 children.
Anemia can cause developmental problems and in severe cases can result in lifelong compromised learning and coping ability. Malnutrition not only slows growth, it makes children even more susceptible to fighting off disease and infections.
According to a recent study by the World Bank, “malnutrition has been estimated to be associated with about half of all child deaths and more than half of child deaths from major diseases.”
