U.S. Emergency Response
The Eastern U.S. Hurricane Season, officially from June 1 to November 30, has been an unpredictable source of devastation and random destruction over the years. In 2005, officially the worst hurricane season in 154 years, AmeriCares responded to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, as well as Stan which hit Mexico and Central America. Our work helping to rebuild after Katrina continues in a major effort in the south, providing logistics, in-kind donations and financial support to community organizations.
AmeriCares was instrumental in providing relief close to home during the attack on the World Trade Center in 2001, and was able to make a major impact on relief efforts thanks to the outpouring of generosity from donors who gave an unprecedented number of gifts totaling more than $9 million. |
