Responding to Emergencies and Disasters

Responding to Disasters in the United States

AmeriCares responds immediately to disasters to reduce suffering and restore health. On 9/11, AmeriCares delivered doctors to Ground Zero to help treat survivors and first-responders. After Hurricanes Katrina and Rita struck the Gulf Coast, AmeriCares delivered medicines, bottled water and other relief supplies to residents in Louisiana and Mississippi. Our work in the Gulf Coast continues even today.

Last year alone, we responded to tornadoes in Kansas, floods in Washington state, Iowa, Indiana and Mississippi, wildfires in California, survivors of Hurricane Ike in Texas; and most recently to people impacted by the deadly ice storms in Kentucky, Missouri and Arkansas.
