Ukraine
Since 2004, AmeriCares has been working with the Children of Chernobyl Relief and Development Fund (CCRDF), a non-profit humanitarian medical relief organization that works to assist children affected by the legacy of the Chernobyl disaster. AmeriCares assists CCRDF by procuring and delivering medical supplies, equipment and hygiene products for distribution to medical institutions throughout Ukraine. Recently, in honor of the 20th anniversary of the April 20, 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster, AmeriCares worked with the CCRDF to send an airlift of medicines and medical supplies to Ukraine. In 1990, AmeriCares airlifted medicines, medical supplies, infant formula and vitamins, which were distributed to hospitals in western and central Romania after the Romanian revolt against Nicolae Ceausescu's 24-year regime that was followed by a brief period of civil unrest. Throughout the year, AmeriCares worked with the Hungarian Maltese Charity to deliver additional supplies of medicines, medical supplies and educational materials to various hospitals. |
