Belarus
AmeriCares began providing medical supplies, medical devices, clothing, toys and hygiene products to our local partner Chernobyl Children's Project International (CCPI) in Belarus in 1995. Most recently, AmeriCares honored the 20th Anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster by preparing convoys of trucks that carried medicines and medical supplies to Belarus. AmeriCares responded to the Chernobyl nuclear accident in 1990 by airlifting medicine, medical supplies, infant formula and vitamins which were distributed to hospitals in western and central Romania. Throughout the year, AmeriCares worked with the Hungarian Maltese Charity to deliver additional supplies of medicines, medical supplies and educational materials to various hospitals. AmeriCares supports CCPI in their ongoing efforts to sponsor cardiovascular medical missions to Belarus that enable surgeons from the International Children's Heart Foundation to perform life-saving operations on children. AmeriCares contributes to this program by providing medicines and supplies for the surgeries performed in Belarus by Dr. William Novick of the International Children's Heart Foundation. |
