AmeriCares has pledged to deliver $50 million in aid to help rebuild the Haiti's health care system in the aftermath of the devastating Haiti earthquake of 2010.
The geographic location of the Dominican Republic and Haiti in the Caribbean renders these countries prone to natural disasters such as hurricanes, earthquakes and mudslides.
AmeriCares also supports the ongoing work of hospitals, clinics, orphanages, schools, elderly homes and homes for the disabled in both the Dominican Republic and Haiti. These countries receive regular shipments of medicines and medical supplies.
Most of AmeriCares efforts in the Caribbean region has been through our longest-standing partner, the Order of Malta. The countries are among the largest recipients of AmeriCares aid, as they support a vast number of health care programs to benefit a broad population.
