Afghanistan

AmeriCares first worked in Afghanistan during 1998 in response to the Rostoq earthquake with an airlift of medicines and medical supplies for hospitals in the region. Part of this shipment included disaster relief supplies for more than 175,000 internally displaced persons in the village of Bamiyan after they were cut off from critical supplies of food and medicine.
In 2002, AmeriCares sent two airlifts into Kabul, carrying relief materials including medicines, medical supplies, nutritional supplements, equipment, blankets, and other critical supplies. These were distributed by our partners, Help the Afghan Children (HTAC) and Afghan Health and Development Services (AHDS).
Currently, AmeriCares provides both partners with in-kind medical donations for the organizations' schools, orphanages and clinics. HTAC's efforts throughout the country provide children with the opportunity for a prosperous future through good health and a quality education. AHDS runs a hospital and several outreach clinics in the Kandahar region of Afghanistan. This particularly impoverished and volatile region receives little aid from other organizations.
