Disasters and disease are facts of life in Haiti. Located in a major hurricane belt, the country is often barraged by fierce wind and rain.

With three out of four Haitians living in abject poverty, they do not have the resources to recover from devastating storms and disease outbreaks.

Hurricane season has just begun in the United States. Experts predict as many as 14 serious storms this year.

In preparation, AmeriCares is touring nearly 30 health care and social service providers in Louisiana and Mississippi communities affected by Hurricane Katrina this season.

The lazy days of summer are supposed to be a time for splashing around in swimming pools and playing baseball. But for children with hemophilia in Romania, just kicking around a soccer ball can be deadly.

Children afflicted with hemophilia, a genetic condition that prevents their blood from clotting, are at constant risk of hemorrhaging from even the simplest of activities without proper care.
