AmeriCares is continuing its commitment to the people of Darfur, Sudan, and is preparing its tenth airlift of medicines and medical supplies in order to meet the health care needs of the refugee populations living in displacement camps. Today, hundreds of thousands of Sudanese rely on the international community for aid and comfort as the humanitarian crisis persists.
"In many of the camp clinics, virtually all the prescriptions have been filled with medicines provided by AmeriCares," explains Christoph Gorder, vice president of emergency response. "The critical medications and essential medical supplies AmeriCares delivers have helped hundreds of thousands of men, women and children throughout North, South and West Darfur."
Since 2004, AmeriCares has sent nine airlifts to North, South and West Darfur, delivering 152 tons of medicines, medical supplies and other critically needed relief worth more than $2 million to help those who have been driven from their homes during the brutal civil conflict. More than two million people have been displaced as a result, and hundreds of thousands have been killed.
