Manna Ministries Medical Clinic -- one of 400-plus safety net clinics supported by AmeriCares -- is a free clinic in southwestern Mississippi. Since 2010, AmeriCares has donated more than $450,000 in medicines and medical supplies to the clinic, including devices and medications for patients with diabetes, respiratory and cardiovascular diseases.

First AmeriCares U.S. Disaster Relief Grants Awarded United States

The first three AmeriCares U.S. Disaster Recovery Grants have been allocated to help storm-damaged communities in upstate NY, flood victims in North Dakota and a clinic in tornado-ravaged Joplin, MO. AmeriCares grants of up to $100,000 are being awarded for health-related recovery projects with an emphasis on medical and dental care for the uninsured, mental health and psychosocial support services, as well as preparedness for future disasters.

Millions in Aid to Help Survivors in a Deadly Tornado Year United States

Tornadoes have claimed more than 520 lives so far in 2011, making it one of the deadliest tornado years in U.S. history. Tens of thousands are homeless, and damage to property runs in the billions. Since April, 2011, AmeriCares has sent $1.4 million in medical and humanitarian aid to six states, with efforts concentrated in the hardest-hit areas of Joplin, MO, Tuscaloosa and Birmingham, AK, Smithville, MS, and Sanford, NC.
