Children are disproportionately impacted by disasters including the tropical storms which recently devastated Haiti.

In response to the devastation caused by recent hurricanes, AmeriCares is launching the next phase of its relief efforts for Haiti with a massive airlift of medicines and medical supplies. This has been a harrowing year for vulnerable Haiti, the poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere, and AmeriCares has already sent $400,000 in aid to date.

AmeriCares is planning an emergency airlift into Haiti that will bring more than 200,000 prescriptions of vital medicines to treat the hundreds of thousands of people displaced by the flooding. Critical supplies include antibiotics to help treat infections and pain medicines for the seriously injured, as well as multivitamins and IV solutions to tackle growing battles against dehydration and malnutrition. More will be needed as the country slowly recovers from the barrage of storms. Read more >>

AmeriCares Delivers New Aid to West Darfur

With the help of many generous supporters, AmeriCares has just delivered our 10th emergency shipment to Darfur since 2004. The delivery contains more than 15 tons of critical medicines and medical supplies to West Darfur and brings the total aid delivered to Darfur since 2004 to more than 167 tons, valued at nearly $5 million. Our staff is working hard to secure additional aid for North and South Darfur, and two more shipments are planned in the coming months.

AmeriCares is one of the few international relief organizations allowed to fly directly into Darfur. Flying into West Darfur, one of Sudan’s most dangerous and hard-to-reach regions, eliminates the risk of delays common to shipments delivered over land. Read more >> Photo Gallery >>  Video >>
