Team AmeriCares Featured Runner: Tom Bredahl

On November 4, 2012, I will be celebrating my birthday while running the ING New York City Marathon with Team AmeriCares.

Physical fitness has been part of my life since I was a young child. I am fortunate to have been raised within a family culture that placed a high value on participation and effort. After playing football and lacrosse during all four years of college, running has become a large part of my fitness program.

I’ve run three marathons so far – New York City, Dublin, and Washington DC – as means to maintain my health and to support various non-profit organizations. This time, I will be joining my colleague, Brian Young, running for Team AmeriCares.

My training roughly follows the routine suggested by the New York Road Runners, although I’ve learned to be flexible so that I don’t miss any important activities at home with my wife and four children.

I have worked as a reinsurance underwriter for 22 years, 14 of which have been with OdysseyRe, a worldwide underwriter of property and casualty reinsurance based in Stamford, CT.

In the global insurance industry we often see firsthand the havoc brought by disasters around the world, and feel good about supporting AmeriCares long-term relief efforts to help survivors.

I am very much looking forward to running with Team AmeriCares, and in helping to reach their fundraising goal!
